Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

I profoundly disagree and in fact it was your rules page which prompted this posting. It also made me roll my eyes and close the tab because I have no patience for this line of responsibility-dodging.

You are going to have your biases regardless of whether you are publically identified or not. In issues of player conflict you're going to be more likely to trust people you already know and like. Even though they won't know who you are, it'll still be hard not to feel like you're letting your friends down when you rule against them. That's because you're still human. You may be able to divorce your public personas, but you can't divide your brain. You know how most anonmods get found out? Because people spot the bias and triangulate.

By retreating behind anon you're not avoiding being biased, you're avoiding having to deal with the issue and perception of mod bias, by making it more difficult for your players to track it. It's ducking responsibility on the issue and I don't have patience for it.

Yeah, that's valid. And I absolutely believe that if there is bias, if we fuck something up, if we make decisions that aren't the right ones, that it'll come out in the wash. That the game will fail, or explode in wank because of it.

I'm willing to take the chance that I can be that good of a person. Sure, I'm human, I make mistakes. But this isn't my first time around the block, and I think I can give it a good try.

As such, in a few months, if the game collapses on itself, you can feel free to say I told you so.

And you're exactly why anonmods exist. You sound like a pretentious and entitled piece of shit right here.

I can see why people might want to anon mod, and that mod up there said it: people act entitled when they know their friends are mods. They unconsciously expect an easier time being buddy-buddy with mods. But if you don't know if those mods are your friends are not, players aren't as likely to attack you personally for not giving them special goddamn treatment. That is my pet peeve as someone who has modded in the past, and actually why I quit modding--people attacking me personally with details about myself just because I made a decision they didn't like and they knew who I was. If they know no details about who is modding them, all they can do is bitch that something isn't fair and say why they think it's not fair, but they can't go, "OH, YOU'RE JUST MAKING THIS DECISION BECAUSE YOUR CAT DIED!" because they don't know a damn thing about the mod's personal life.

Also: witchesreign's past anonmods would like a word with you on being found out, they went over a year without anyone identifying them, and only the mods after them might possibly know their identity.

It's not exactly difficult to deal with people whining about expecting special treatment. Just tell them to debate your decision on the merits or sit the fuck down.

Did I really need to spell that out as 'most anonmods who get found out'? Pretty obvious, brohan.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-19 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Except they won't debate the merits, they'll whine you're their friend so why the fuck don't they get special treatment waaaaah.

You haven't modded before, have you?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-19 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've modded in two separate games for...going on four years now, I believe.

If they're going to whine just roll your eyes and ignore them. I guarantee you nobody will care.

nah, i knew who one of wr's anonymods was; i just never outed them

(tip for anonymods: don't accidentally copypaste parts of your conversations deliberating on apps into your "accepted/rejected/revisions" comments, especially if there is a name or username visible)

Dude. A mod's only responsibility is to keep the game running, which means running events/plots/keeping lists up to date/apps/etc.

They do not need to be your buddy, PLUS your own argument just contradicted itself. Mod bias can't be both difficult to track AND easy enough to spot and triangulate. IMO, you just hate the thought of not knowing who your mods are. Which is okay! Just come out and say that instead of making a ridiculously contradictory argument.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-19 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
There's nothing contradictory about that. Unless 'more difficult' suddenly equates to 'impossible'.

It still occurs. It's still trackable. It just takes longer for the pattern to emerge because you don't have advance knowledge of the mod's relationships. Wow, that was hard to work out!

(Anonymous) 2012-03-19 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, if you have nothing better to do in RP than nitpick your mod's every decision for personal bias, you need to find a new hobby.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-19 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Do you even go here?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-19 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Nope.
