Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

since we're talking about bans and behaviors to watch for, i'm curious what your stance will be on certain cliques taking over the dr. the reason sws/www/smuttysws are the way they are now isn't just because or even mostly in part due to that master or selwyn. it's the damn marvel clique that 'icly' harasses anyone that tries to play there that doesn't fit in with their little 'game verse'. they've all picked one singular verse to play in so anyone coming in is like coming into a game already in play, only no one knows the rules. the players in there have icly harassed characters by becoming vocal sjw mouthpieces that harangue people that say things they don't like. it's uncomfortable to watch and it's the largest reason i don't play in either comm. i don't have characters that 'fit in' with them and while i can and have posted my own posts, they're either answered by them trying to drag my char into their 'game', or the remarks are snide and rude and generally an attempt to kick people out of their playground.

how would you deal with this if they start to do the same to this dr?

First, because I've been out of journal RP for a while and am behind on things: "dr"?

As for cliques: we're hoping to avoid them. If we see any harassment, it'll be dealt with. First we'll ask them OOC to stop, and if they don't we'll start banning people. If people are just super not into playing outside their own canon, I'll probably suggest they start their own comm.

dr = dressing room. sws/www/smuttysws are all 'dressing rooms', meaning most of them don't have a set theme/verse to follow. i don't know if you used to be on lj or not, but the sws/smuttysws over there got borrowed over to here and taken over by a very persistent, very annoying clique. www (wayswithwords) was made to try to offer a new place without the limit of six words and the clique, but they eventually took that over too. i honestly wouldn't have a problem with a group happily playing along in there actively if they weren't so... them. you either play in their verse or fuck you. none of them understand the concept of multiple verses, so you can't have different lines with any of them. it's all one big 'game story' and you're in it or they run you out. it's hostile and it's the main reason why the other drs are limited in activity.

(ftr, the idea of them starting their own comm and having their own verse has been brought up *multiple* times. they have a comm called dreamlikenewyork for their ocs, but for their comic crowd, they refuse to make a place for it. the mods of the comms have had evidence of them being harassing brought to them, but since at least one mod per comm is involved in it, it doesn't go anywhere. the answer is 'deal with it or just avoid playing with them'. which really sounds easier than it is, since if you ignore them, you get shit on by their entire clique and it's like some weird communal shunning)

Ah. I did RP on LJ for a while, but not in SWS. Mostly after things in the old Nexus comms got hostile I kept it to my own journals and friends.

Like I said, if anyone persists in being nasty, they'll get banned. I'm well aware that "avoid playing with them" only goes so far.

Let's just say there's a reason I stopped doing this for so long and leave it at that, ok?

i honestly don't blame you. we are a whiny, entitled bunch of assholes. we're more so when we're anon. i hope the comm gets up and running and i plan on peeking in to see if anything looks tempting to tag. selwyn or that master being involved isn't going to keep me out since i'm capable of just, you know, not tagging them back.

That's good to hear. :)

And FYI I'm reasonably certain our Cap isn't part of the clique. ;) His mun is far too cool to do that sort of thing.

to be quite honest, not everyone in the clique is that level of asshole. there's about four/five players that play multiple characters that get incredibly hostile if you happen to tag their ship partner or if you say something they think is 'non-pc' or w/e. they're the ones that make it toxic. there's players like threshy-mun that aren't complete assholes, but they're still just part of the circle of jerk. kind of like being a dick by compliance instead of outright dickery.

Mm, I know what you mean.

Well, I'm not one to sit quiet and let that sort of thing go unchallenged.

i think that's all that anyone really needs to know. there's some dedicated BUT YOU SHOULD PREBAN THEM NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW whiners, but i think it's in part because legitimate issues have been brought to other comm mods and ignored (which is why that master can still play in sws after being harassing to players) and people are just assuming that's what's going to happen here. i don't think you should pre-ban them, but i DO think (and hope) that if legitimate issues pop up in the comm, the mods will act on it.

I'm working to make it awesome-people-dominated this time around. ;) A bit more diverse in the origins, but hopefully even more fun.

Hey, I actually had to involve the police in dealing with some of the jerks back in the day. I completely get wanting to avoid someone who is persistent and getting a little paranoid about them.

I will absolutely do everything I have the power to do to keep my comm safe for everyone.

Holy shit, what? That's horrible. I hope everything turned out okay. I had a RL stalker from that crowd myself, so I know at least some of your pain.

Yeah. I made the mistake of getting too close to someone. Thought they were my friend. When they started talking about how depressed they were, I would call them on the phone and spend all night talking to them, I'd send them care packages... and when I couldn't take the burden of being their only support when they refused to get the help they needed, I tried to back away a bit and they lost it.

Fortunately police will do something called a "wellness check", and I was able to coordinate the timing with the local-to-them cops to a time when they were actively harassing me. They ended up in the hospital, and last I heard they were responding well to treatment. I haven't been following up on them or anything, that would be... weird.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-05 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Really because that happened with me where I had this friend who was like threatening suicide if I stopped talking with her. And her local police were like "Yeah we won't do anything about internet conversations"

Different places have different rules. Sometimes different cops on different shifts handle things differently. It's really hit-or-miss about getting help. I got lucky. Not everyone does. Hopefully someday it'll be better.

did you live with this person/know them on a person level/live in the same city as them?

because as someone else who had to go through this kind of situation, the police really don't take internet death threats seriously

They were someone I had actually been in a relationship with and visited before, but we weren't in the same city. and it was probably 8 or so years ago. Maybe now it would be taken more seriously, but idk.

I don't know where you are or what year this was for you, anon, but I know police will come out to check on people if those conversations are explicit/mention that they've already done something (like taking pills).

As someone who worked a job that involved calling the police a lot and having a close relationship with them due to frequently needing them, they always respond to a wellness check. How they handle it varies, but they will always go at the least.
