You're all idiots except for me

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: Unrealistic Fight Scenes

I may be kind of repeating the person above, but what I always do is watch the general process of how these things happen, and think how to put them to words.

For instance, I've played from Avatar: the Last Airbender (which while inspired by real martial arts styles nonetheless involves supernatural use of the elements), and I've played from series with explicitly magical characters. What does the character do in order to make the attack? What movements? Do they say anything? If they have a device or object used in the attack, do they have to point it certain ways or go through certain steps? Does the object change/move/have some effect that can be described? There's always going to be a certain style to it, so that even if it's not a series where attacks are prenamed, there's still a way you can expect it to be executed. A waterbender moves a lot differently than a firebender; a magical girl from one series uses different powers than one from another; and even individuals tends to have their own personal quirks. Finding the exact way to transcribe it to words can be difficult if you're not used to it, but (in my experience) it's easy to find a certain flow or pattern to the description after you've done it a few times.

I also want to second all the above commentor's advice!

Thanks for the advice; bringing up Avatar helps a lot because that's an example I know of a canon where the fighting was really heavy on the artistic visuals. Thinking about it that way will help know where to start.
