I damn near got into a fight with a friend who was stanning hard for Cloud/Aerith and bashing Tifa. Sorry your classic love story was shit tier and honestly none of them needed to be with anyone.

cloud/aerith is actually really fun... when aerith is actually a character

a lot of the time - in both fanfic and official stuff - she's kind of just written as bland motherly figure

in the actual game she fucked with cloud a lot and teased him and that relationship was fun

i like zidane/garnet

Zidane/Garnet is my favorite, because it's adorable, and very fairy-tale-esque, and most importantly, it fits the tone of the game. IX wasn't the deepest story, but I didn't need it to be. It's my favorite FF precisely because it has some serious notes, but doesn't overall take itself too grimdark seriously. So, the loveable rogue sweeping the princess off her feet is great. So are the tragic couple separated by fate (Freya/Fratley), and the opposites attract couple bonding over duty (Steiner/Beatrix).
