Harry/Ginny

Didn't feel like there was a sufficient amount of build up time. Ginny was suddenly hot, popular, great athlete with no build up or previous hints. Rowling wanted Harry to marry into the Weasely family so he could finally be part of a loving family and doing it this way was just felt slapped on. Why does he need to marry into it anyway to be considered part of their family? Sorry, it just felt like it came out of left field near the end of the series.

yoooo

i get that attraction to someone can be a really spontaneous thing but ugh. a lot of the romance plots were the romance plot versions of luna's stupid FRIENDSFRIENDSFRIENDS paintings. contrived and unnecessary.

plus if he had to marry into the weasleys why couldnt he just marry ron jeez

THIS so much. It just felt like a huge cop-out, that Harry absolutely had to end up as an official member of the Weasley family. It was so glaringly obvious that Rowling wanted it to go that way that she just skipped actually developing the relationship.

Like, honestly I would have preferred an epilogue with a twist reveal, where Harry ends up marrying someone random, or not at all, over Ginny. It was just so forced :|

the beast/animal metaphor associated with it in book six was also fucking bizarre.

harry legit thought he had a boner monster

this is why they needed to have some kind of wizard health class available for these poor children

Whenever someone asks me why I hate the Harry/Ginny pairing, I just direct them to those lines, tbh. There is no way I can take them seriously when Harry thinks his emotions are a roaring lion in his chest.

I remember reading some critic lauding that for being such a 'powerful' representation of adolescent sexuality.

I just thought it awkward and unintentionally hilarious.

ginny just got no real screentime. She wasn't a bad character when she was around but she spent so much of the books off-screen, even when she was the focus of what was going on. Like, how many extended conversations did Harry and Ginny even have?

this. they had a really cool moment in book 5, when she broke up his moping for five seconds to remind him that she had actually been possessed by voldemort, and there were a few hangout scenes here and there, but... not really enough for me to go "yes, that's it, these people are really in love".
