I was there for the End of Edensphere and it was a transcendent experience.

The thing is, from the outside, it could look like a pretty bad way to go - because in the end, player actions didn't really matter, the world did what it did never mind what we did. But from the inside, at least for my character and the people I had most CR with, the point wasn't the central mystery or even getting to affect the end at all. It was about coming to terms with that end and everything it represented in terms of realizing what Edensphere was and what it did to our characters. The mods did a great job announcing the endgame well ahead of time and then building up to it in terms of events, plotting, setting, etc., and there was a fuckton of player planning and interaction around it. Others might not agree, I guess, but for me - especially considering my character's Main Conflict, there I probably just deanoned myself, hi - everything was perfect.

Lesson: Plan the endgame at least half a year in advance, don't make it just one big event but let it build and unfold, and remember that eventually DWRP is about CR not about "winning" or "solving" or actually getting out of that damn jamjar.

+1

End of Edensphere was wonderful. After being in another game that ended terribly I am even more appreciative that the mods knew it was time to close down. The endgame stuff was great and some of the fondest memories I have of RP. So happy it ended on a high note.

i always feel so much regret whenever i see edensphere get brought up. the game looked awesome and fun from the outside, but i never got around to joining it.

i don't think there'll be another game like it which makes me even sadder. i loved even just following and reading the threads of the characters that were in game.

As a former mod of ES, this makes me happy to hear, anon. I can't speak for the others, but while having to close up shop broke my heart, I do feel like it was the right decision for the game and it makes me happy to hear that even years after we've closed, people have fond memories of it.

Never forget. Always remember to eat your apples, and the grey man LIES.

I will forever regret that I didn't come back for the endgame. I didn't really get to play out the game's closure and so it's just kind of always been a regret in the back of my mind. I had a wonderful character in mind, too, I just never got to play him.

everything i've heard about ES makes it sound like it was probably the closest to perfection a JRP game has ever achieved. i can't recall any major wank ever coming from it, just people having a blast in the game setting all the way to the end.
