Those suggestions sucked

the ending was different because it was the first time gaku actually considered marii a person with their own will

which, i mean, i would get ... had her world-jumping quest ended maybe a volume ago. by the end of it, this dumbass has broken the fabric of space-time, literally become almost every single person in japan, went back to the beginning of the universe to erase herself from the material world, lived through countless lifetimes and waited out the entire 50 billion years of evolution... all this before it crossed her mind to just talk to her damn friend? it just feels so ridiculous.

not to mention she's completely lost her personhood both physically and mentally, has abused and murdered countless human beings including an innocent 11 year old child -- sometimes to progress towards her goal, but many times just for the hell of it. gaku has become so warped and frightening and horrible, and you're honestly trying to sell me 'and then she went back to normal and continued her fun carefree school life with her group of friends she's spent an eternity manipulating and murdering'? that just... really can't work for me at this point. even her 'love' for marii is messed up beyond redemption at this point, except i get the impression i'm supposed to see it as star-crossed, beautiful yuris.

and yeah, some more concrete info about the eyes would've been cool too. just, beeeh

Sounds like a perfect character for dwrp: she would easily adapt to slice-of-life jamjars, but has a dark violent past that can come up whenever the player wants.

i think you hit the nail on why it the ending bothered me even though i don't hate it.

it does feel like a cheap cop-out to excuse gaku but otoh, the other way i could think of the story could conclude would be if gaku continued to be a horrible monster that only considered marii's existence important or if she was somehow killed/destroyed while never really succeeding in her goal or if marii outright rejected gaku - i don't know if that would be satisfactory.

i'm not a fan of star-crossed yuris and how her love for marii did get really warped and twisted, but i'm okay with her returning back to her original self. essentially the person she was at the beginning of the chapter isn't who she is at the end of it - after all, her connections to her parallel selves has been severed and she doesn't remember the eternity that she spent manipulating and murdering people. i'm sure she remembers that she did some incredibly monstrous things but she can't recall with exact detail what she did or it's more like her mind can't comprehend how it was.

did it go over the top? yeah, but to be honest i don't mind since subtlety isn't exactly a strong point in most manga.
