Those suggestions sucked

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: Completely IC Manipulation?

the thing is, as people have said above, if you're trying to deceive people OOC as well then you're just straight up...lying about your narrative? any kind of big twist you try to spring just looks like you pulled it out of your ass because you wanted your character to be Powerful.

i've had people try to do this to my character in an MMO. it's one of the many reasons that i plan OOC so extensively now, whether i'm on either side of a plot like this. it's unpleasant, and it's just bad storytelling. and it's a huge red flag to your RP partner, because it says "hey, i'm good with lying to you for fun"

that kind of behavior is usually an indication of other emotionally manipulative and nasty OOC shit. i get the desire to have RP be as ~immersive~ as possible, but honestly i think it's a lot more mature sometimes to step back and realize there are other people behind the screen.

+1

yeah, basically. it shows that your rp partner doesn't care if you have fun as long as they get what they want, and honestly, that's not somebody I'd want to play with, personally. i think rp should be fun for both people.
