Chicken-fucking is not valid employment

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Looms.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know about that until last thread, I'm a terrible DW fan.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think anyone wants to even acknowledge the looms half of the time. They're a little too ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-08 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
sure, they're ridiculous, but are they that much more ridiculous than other things about Gallifrey?

i dont much care one way or another, but i do hate when the 'looms are ridiculous' thing is brought up to specifically discredit anyone preferring to think of the Doctor as asexual

(Anonymous) 2015-03-08 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
anon that didn't know about looms previously

I'm with you. The entire series is ridiculous, imo, and that's part of why I adore it so much. I just had been casually enjoying the series for years and had never looked any deeper, so I was surprised to find out about them.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-08 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but TBH it's people who want to argue that he's asexual that bring up looms. And while I don't think them being ridiculous is a good argument against them, they're not exactly canon either and therefore aren't really the best point of discussion in that argument imo.

anyone who has to absolutely insist on the Doctor being any kind of sexuality - a, bi, pan, bun, whatever - and feels the need to discredit everyone else's opinion with more or less obscure or canonical references needs to chill anyway

(Anonymous) 2015-03-08 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

i agree. it's a dumb thing to argue about so thats why its silly to act like looms are any definitive statement on the character's sexuality.

why would they be anyway. if they're taken as canon that just means gallifreyans don't reproduce naturally anymore. that doesn't mean they can't have recreational sex

it doesn't mean they do, either, but come on. using looms as an argument for asexuality doesn't really work any better than saying they don't exist works as an argument for him being straight/gay/bi/pan/whatever

ayrt

sorry for being unclear but that's what i meant. trying to argue looms are canon/not-canon for the purpose of the doctor's sexuality is pointless.

no it's my bad. that's what i thought you were saying, i was trying to agree/add to it but it came off confrontational

in lungbarrow, the time lords are cursed by evil wimmens into not being able to have reproductive sex.

ayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-03-08 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
well now I see why people might not want to include it in the canon

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-03-10 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
yeah :p

i just figure time lords mostly procreate through artificial means because it's less messy, more predictable, and more efficient

and sex is probably this whole complicated thing, with plans and forms and traditions, because time lords

they are p. much planet of the beaurocrats as far as I can tell. probably make you fill out forms in quadruplicate to have a natural birth, lose the paperwork, and then make you do it again five months later

EXACTLY

(the doctor, naturally, did whatever the fuck he wanted

i really enjoy the idea of him running naked from the chancellery guard)

That and it completely shits on Susan's place in the Doctor's life. She's his granddaughter. Blood relative. The Doctor had children who in turn had children. People have to get over it.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-03-13 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
yeah this. in the wiki article about the looms it specifically says that gallifreyans would refer to each other as "cousins" so uh

why the hell would he call her his granddaughter if she... wasn't
