It's the only pairing that was actually hinted at looooooooong ago, I mean, after the Sasuke retrieval arc there was that moment between them that had me go "oh, those are endgame". And that was cemented a bit more in the following arcs, had they ended with anyone else my brain would have definitively exploded.

it's funny because kishimoto stated he didn't want (or intend) to write a romance or relationship for shikamaru but never said he was going to end up alone

agreed though. i think shikatema was pretty much a pairing 90% of the fandom supported since it's been obvious for a long time haha
