have any dog anons dealt with ticks before?

my dog has an unexplained penny sized scab near his butt (i don't think it's close enough to be anal gland related?) and he's been feeling a little fatigued today and yesterday. when it's time to go out or when it's my bedtime, he'll hang around me but otherwise he'll lay in his bed all day. not always sleeping just laying down and relaxing. he's been acting completely normal until yesterday/today

we went on a walk a 20 mins ago and visited a dog owner friend who was petting him and felt the scab. he thinks it might have been a tick under his skin because he's pulled ticks from his own dog dozens of times. it's dark out so he didn't actually see it tho

i plan on going to the vet tomorrow but i'd like to hear anons' experiences

ticks don't burrow into the skin tho. they chomp on and get bigger.

well he said that the skin might have scabbed over the dumb tick, not that it burrowed into my dog's skin

unlikely. did you find other bumps like that one on him?

no, just that one scab. it's black and about the size of a penny, at the top of his thigh so i'm doubting it's an anal gland thing

if he got jabbed by something and bled, i probably would have noticed. i'm not sure what else could've caused it. he hasn't played rough with other dogs recently

it might be a tumor?

i had a dog who had a tick die while still connected to it and it swelled up over the stupid not-bug which is why we didn't find it right away. SO yeah this kinda thing can happen and if it's infected that might be why your dog is lethargic. Taking them to the vet is probably a good idea even if it's something else, just to be safe.

how much did the vet charge to remove the damn thing after it scabbed over? assuming my dog's got a tick problem

i'm assuming the vet visit will be around $100 (inc. $30 for checkup) and i hope it's not too much...

I know it can be expensive but put some fucking preventative shit on your animals. I've been doing it for over ten years and have never had any bug-related issues with any of my dogs.

i do use a monthly treatment for fleas and ticks actually

i apply it at the beginning of the month (2nd) so maybe a tick got him while it was wearing off? idk if it IS a tick i'll ask my vet if i should start applying that shit sooner (like every 3 weeks) just in case
