Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

american society says you're a failure if you're still living with your folks in your twenties though

never mind the fact that currently the us infrastructure does not seem to be able to keep twenty-somethings employed

this kind of social pressure does exist, yes

there's an expectation that in your twenties you're supposed to be living on your own and have started a career

it's considered shameful for americans to be living with their parents past the age of 18, pretty much- we see it here any time the subject comes up, even if people have damn good reasons for still living with their parents in their twenties (like, for example- if you can't find full-time work, if you do work full-time but have a shitty minimum wage job, etc. etc.). and even if they contribute their fair share to the household by paying rent/helping with bills/doing chores around the house etc. not making enough money isn't seen as a valid excuse because BOOTSTRAPS BOOTSTRAPS, Real Adults (tm) would find a way to make it work you lazy basement-dwellers!!!

the fact of the matter is that the job market sucks, minimum wage is often not a living wage, even higher than minimum jobs can still not pay a living wage, and for many people, living with their parents can mean the difference between having a roof over your head and living on the street. i'd rather take the shame and judgmental strangers and have a safe place to live than have to sleep in my car.

I'm having trouble with this right now. I work full time at two jobs, and I still only make about a fifth of what my dad makes while he works about half the number of hours I do.

I think he finally understood the problem with this when he went with me one time when I deposited my job #2 paycheck a week ago. That paycheck was literally, digit for digit, one-tenth of the paycheck he had just gotten that same day.

If that was really your intend then you probably should have laid off the condescending tone for just one comment.
