If you app to a sex game, you'll have to deal with playing smut. If you app to a memloss game, you'll have to deal with memloss.

And if you app to a monster transformation game where your only 100% sure way of not getting a specific monster is to opt out of it, you will have to be able to deal with that, too.

Your problem is literally "I thought random selection was great until the random selection bit happened".

That is an awful comparison and you know it. Ryslig pretends there isn't random selection, but what happened for quite a few people is just that. Which is confusing and eye-roll-worthy. Mods just saying "monsters are randomly assigned" would make that little problem disappear in a heartbeat.

Would have apped for official random selection too, it's just odd to act like there isn't and then ... there is?

Are you a mod or why are you so defensive of this bs? A few people here have said that it doesn't make any sense whatsoever and they're confused, not "it's not 100% obvious I'm angry now wah wah!" -- there's a huge difference and you don't seem to grasp that at all.

Um. No. Actually I'm saying I don't get why people are self righteous about people being disappointed. Just because you knew it was random doesn't mean it doesn't really suck if you get something you just can't get enthusiastic about? And that being disappointed doesn't mean you are somehow a "whiner" or a shit person?

Pssst I'm the OP, the person dragging their ass is some other anon and I don't even know what they are going on about.

the key is how one deals with their disappointment. no one has the right to complain or will label you a whiner if your initial response is that you are a little bummed out over the monster you got. i've seen a few players do just that without a problem. not every choice out of 13 - 18 will be perfect and thrilling.

people will call you whiny when you take it to the announcement plurk, the announcement post, and other player's plurks, while shooting down anyone who wants to help you get into your monster. and they won't exactly be wrong.

i agree that it sucks if you can't get enthusiastic about it at all, and that if nothing helps your only option is dropping. at the same time, i am one of those people who say that, if there is a monster that ruins the game for you to that degree, the fault is only in part with the game.

Yeah, exactly. I see absolutely no issue with someone being disappointed, and going SHIT I AM SO BUMMED OUT or even TAGS WILL HAVE TO WAIT A WHILE I KIND OF LOST MY DRIVE THERE on your own plurk is absolutely within anyone's right. For a moment when I saw my own monster assignment, I was actually pretty damn disappointed myself because yes, it ended up being one of my bottom choices. I managed to rally pretty quickly and find things I actually loved about the monster I got, but I can understand and appreciate that it might not be the same for someone else.

So no, I wouldn't dream of thinking someone is a tittybaby just for being upset, even if randomness is a premise of the game. It's still super understandable. No one expects to get something they don't want, and being stuck with it for the rest of the game with dropping as your only alternative sucks.

But at the same time, I will have very little sympathy for anyone who drags their misery all over other people who are happy, who try to turn every attempt at helping them into just another pity party, and who get pissy and defensive when people attempt to be constructive instead of simply going "oh no, poor you". I won't feel sorry for anyone who thinks being passive-aggressive and rude is a good way of dealing with upset, or who will insist that they're a victim of bullying when other people get understandably fed up.

Just my two cents, but. yeah, tl;dr people ABSOLUTELY have the right to be upset and a bit butt-blistered if they got something that really doesn't jive with them, but neither of these things justifies shitty behavior toward other players.
