i call cakes and pies pastries. all baked goods are pastries to me, be they coffee cake, jelly donuts, oatmeal cookies, cheese danishes, apple fritters, bear claws, bran muffins, bagels, chocolate croissants, or cherry pie.

i also call them sweets as long as they're sweet and not savory-tasting. the coffee cake, jelly donuts, oatmeal cookies, apple fritters, bear claws, chocolate croissants, and cherry pie are all sweets to me.
