Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Well, I watched a really good Thief lp and have no interest in playing the games because of it, but I adore Garrett as a character. The person playing was quite skilled - skilled enough to make Garrett perform as well as he should. Expert level, usually got all the loot, and killed no one.

However, since I'm not as good, the experience of playing the game would actually be less immersive to me. I would botch it up too much. And yes, I could use a guide, but it kinda comes back around for the same reason: if I have to use a guide, it's pulling me out of the experience.

I'm not sure who you are trying to convince. If you think you can RP a video game character without having played the canon, more power to you. If you can do it well, I assure you no one's going to care. Just keep quiet about it if you're afraid people might be judgmental over it.

I'm just pointing out that the whole "playing it yourself = better immersion/connection to the game" is not necessarily uniform?
