PC gamer anons!

What kind of computer do you have? How long have you had it? Does it run games well?

i play on a sony vaio laptop and it can't handle tomb raider but it deals with things like DOTA, amnesia, and anything of comparable or lower quality

alienware aurora r2. expensive, but i've had it almost 5 years and it's been able to run all my games on high settings. i even got it to run the notoriously impossible-to-play-on-pc cod: ghosts. it's my baby.

5 years and it still runs even new games on high settings? dang. i've wanted an alienware but i heard they overheat easily

only the laptops are prone to overheating but tbh all laptops are going to do that. "gaming laptops" don't really exist. they don't have enough space to utilize the fan well enough, so the game's performance will always suffer. you're better off just getting a regular laptop than spending a lot more on a "gaming" one.

idk the average lifespan of an aw desktop but i don't do anything special with mine. i just open it up and clean out the insides once a month, keep the display drivers up to date and defrag it on a regular basis.

Macbook pro. Had it about a year and a half, maybe? It gets burning hot and whirrs like a motherfucker when I play certain games (Prototype and Octodad have the thing working overtime) but it is smoooooooth. The only downer is the fact not all games are Mac compatible. Compatibility issues are rarer these days, but annoying when they occur. I have parallels + windows 8 to play windows-only titles, but the emulation is just more excessive strain on the machine.

my partner and i have a custom rig

bet your ass it does

(Anonymous) 2014-07-03 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
custom rig, about three years old. it can run anything i've thrown at it, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth and can't do max settings anymore. gonna spring for a new video card soon probably, my old 550ti is bottlenecking me hard.

I'm using a custom built rig that I put together about two years ago. I've yet to have an issue with any game on max settings. My current setup has dual 560 Ti cards with 32GB of RAM.

i7-4790k 16GB EVGA GTX 770 4GB, recently had to gut PC and replace mobo to fit in the haswell series.

runs most games well, run into slight issue when using OBS to record while in something intensive like w_d, although I think it's a RAM issue showing its ugly head under strain.

A Sager laptop. I've had it since last October and it runs games wonderfully.

It has a 2.50GHz i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB HDD, and a nVidia GeForce GT 740M GPU and is running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Sagers are one of the best you can get for gaming laptops. I love mine and would happily buy another when it comes time to replace this one.

An old Toshiba Qosmio from 6 years ago. It could run games on high settings for the longest time but yeah, I've had problems with lag and overheating for the past year and a half or so, so I'm going to go back to a desktop this august (getting my first custom rig.)

That said if you exclude overheating it can still run stuff like Dark Souls II no problem. I can't say I didn't get any mileage out of it.

i have an i7 920 that used to be clocked at 3.6ghz but heating issues required me to push it back to factory settings. i has 6gigs of ram, and one old 280 1gb card.

i had it for about six years and it in its prime could run lots of shit without issue. i can still play some games on it, but i worry about the heating issue. sooo i'm trying to hold out till either broadwell or skylake before building again.

Custom rig, still using an i5 but I need a better heatsink since I'm running into heating issues on the newest games. I bought it originally pre-made from Newegg, then rebuilt it in '12 with all new parts except the harddrive. I'll probably do another major re-building around the tail end of 2015 or early 2016, depending on finances.

Just to note, I researched and bought all the parts myself, but I paid someone else to put it together since I don't trust myself to do so (yeah, yeah, it's so easy and anybody can do it following instructions, yadda yadda).
