The shitty life advice brigade

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I'm so embarrassed that they had to edit the Red Summit post to explicitly clarify that characters aren't supposed to be badass heroes during this event... Come on guys... Why did this even have to be said...

ngl i was laughing pretty hard at all of the people on plurk who were talking about how excited they were for this event while completely missing the point of it

"yay! an event where people get caught by surprise and murdered! except for *my* character! *my* character is going to protect the people near them and kill anyone who comes close! who wants protecting!?"

looooooool the special snowflake syndrome that people displayed was outrageous. i almost wish that no one said anything just so i could see how out of hand the threads became.

Sigh. I'm disappointed at myself for being surprised.

my only problem with it was the sudden swing over to 'no, you'll all be drunk and probably dead,' which suddenly made it a plot no one in their right mind would want to participate in, especially when they're NPCing it themselves.

thankfully, it's been edited again to something that makes more sense.

adachi's player is still trying to be a special snowflake about it, though. there's a character i wish was just banned from RP completely.

someone needs to explain to them in very small words that no, they cannot come in and save the day. christ.

Thankfully that edit wasn't up very long... I think the player realized how drastic their wording was, but if they were seeing multiple people carrying on like the Adachi player, I guess I can't really blame them for initially going overboard in their firmness... Like you said, they really do seem to need smaller words. I don't want to say anything in the plurk, though, because I don't know how to word it without sounding like a killjoy or a godmoder.

you'll probably kill their joy no matter how nice you are about it. just do it.

As one of maybe three people on the entire planet who's not into Game of Thrones, I actually really appreciate the edits. Not because I was expecting to be able to be a badass (my character is the exact opposite of badass), but because the latest version is a heck of a lot more informative for those of us who don't have the fandom context to extrapolate from.

yeah, i really wish people would get away from the doing the 'it's going to be like [pop culture example]!' with the expectation that everyone just knows what that is. just in general. it's a bad way to explain things, even if you think it's quicker.
