rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. why not just go to ij for this? literally half the site is this.

i didn't want to navigate an entirely different rp culture and i have no idea how they write over there. it's not like dwrp is the epitome of writing skill but it can always be worse.

though i did google and wow yeah i didn't realize there were that many hp games over there. i'll take a look around and see if something catches my eye.

the hp culture is kind of like lj's and a few years behind us. they aren't too different and they aren't much like ij's generalized rp culture! i can throw some links at you, if you'd like.

the thing is, a lot of them do still do the whole journal/post thing and they don't work with networks. some require a post, too. most are incredibly welcoming and a plus for many is that they usually function on aim. it's really a friendly atmosphere for hp players and it's nice because you can play your ocs or almost ocs and there's sort of fandom-standard blanket ideals for them, if that makes sense? i've never joined a game on dw or lj in the past few years where i immediately felt welcomed and like people wanted to tag me. if you do, expect to be frequently im-ed by people.

also, new games with REALLY nice coding tend to be the ones that crash and burn quickest. the ones that seem to have dull, crappy coding tend to actually have the most solid playerbases that stick around longest, are most friendly, and the writing is often surprisingly good.

however the downside which usually ties in to journal-based games is that there's a lot of prose and not so much action tags? but not everyone tl;drs or responds with nothing. i pretty much find it to be a really welcoming area of rp?

but yeah! if you're digging it, i can help you navigate some more common comms that people look at for finding people to play with (outside of celeb/blanket ocs where they only care about pbs). c:

i would appreciate links, anon! tsym! i looked at the ij advertisement comms for hp games that popped up on google, but i'm not sure if that's indicative of the rp culture in general. premises that aren't really my thing are more oc-based characters than canon ones, nextgen games, and wildly au games. a lot of them seem to be at least one of those, though.

and i used to play in journal-based games so i'm cool with that! and it would definitely be interesting to navigate without a network.

btw -- what's the age range of players over there? similar to dwrp or younger/older?

yeah, a lot of them are kind of... idk. most of the games that are more heavily focused in what is canon or not toward the end of series are long-standing and you probably won't find characters you want remaining! again, i highly suggest checking out the ones with the crappy layouts and ads over the fancy pretty ones. a lot of them die out quickly.

it's a bit difficult when you aren't too in-tune with it anymore, but a lot of players and mods are really understanding and willing to work with you.

i'd say it's about the same? with hp, it's a real mixed bag. i do think the hp crowd tends to be the ones that never stopped rping since gj/earlier lj and i tend to find the average age (when made available) to be 23-35? you might find a lot of unfunny memes and stuff, though, ooc. it often feels like you're staring into a few years ago.

there are a bunch for ij games, as well. again, seriously you'll want to steer clear of like pbads or pbadz and so forth. sorry this wasn't sorted better or less... ugly, but it should do the trick. good luck, anon! it might take a few months if you don't find something you're looking for, but ij is imho like 70% active hp games at any given time.

(oh, a lot of games also still do ic aim! either with separate ic accounts or ic convos/threads over aim. so if you don't use aim anymore, you might want to download it again.)

thanks a lot for the links! this is super comprehensive and really helpful.c: i've looked around and i've found a game or two that catch my eye. the set-up is really different from dwrp so i can tell there's gonna be a learning curve, but i'll give it a shot because the hp bug has bitten me really hard heh.
