Oh beautiful, for spacious posts

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

i would appreciate links, anon! tsym! i looked at the ij advertisement comms for hp games that popped up on google, but i'm not sure if that's indicative of the rp culture in general. premises that aren't really my thing are more oc-based characters than canon ones, nextgen games, and wildly au games. a lot of them seem to be at least one of those, though.

and i used to play in journal-based games so i'm cool with that! and it would definitely be interesting to navigate without a network.

btw -- what's the age range of players over there? similar to dwrp or younger/older?

thanks again for the help!c:

yeah, a lot of them are kind of... idk. most of the games that are more heavily focused in what is canon or not toward the end of series are long-standing and you probably won't find characters you want remaining! again, i highly suggest checking out the ones with the crappy layouts and ads over the fancy pretty ones. a lot of them die out quickly.

it's a bit difficult when you aren't too in-tune with it anymore, but a lot of players and mods are really understanding and willing to work with you.

i'd say it's about the same? with hp, it's a real mixed bag. i do think the hp crowd tends to be the ones that never stopped rping since gj/earlier lj and i tend to find the average age (when made available) to be 23-35? you might find a lot of unfunny memes and stuff, though, ooc. it often feels like you're staring into a few years ago.

here's some links. also, i would avoid any comm with "pb" in the name because it tends to be really heavily focused on pbs and celebs (either rping as them or just more concerned about what your character looks like than what your character is like):

character pimp (not as active, but it's good when you want to play someone; people do regularly skim!): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/character_pimp/

find a partner (i've had success here, but it never seems to active?): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/find_a_partner/

fantasy rpgs (99% potter): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/fantasy_rpgs/

easel (catch-all, but lots of potter! tends to cater to everyone and everything, lots of players posting for psls and looking for games!): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/easel/

darker sls (for ~dark~ storylines): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/darkersls/

darker rpg ads (same): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/darkerrpgads/

find a player (great place to look for characters specifically wanted by other players instead of mods just going WE WANT THESE CHARACTERS): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/find_a_player/

hp rp ads: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/hp_rp_ads/

hp rpg ads: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/hp_rpg_ads/

hp rpg search: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/hprpgsearch/

potter games: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/pottergames/

psl ads (ads for psls, i personally am not huge on psling on ij; a lot of people that do are kind of... what you see when skimming ij rp! but i've had some success in the past! again, they're pretty focused on what's SUPER POPULAR and faces): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/pslads/

rated x (smut requests, mostly psls): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/ratedx/

school ads (tons of harry potter games, a lot exclusively for ocs and set in other schools, etc. -- there once was an hp f/f game that only posted ads on this, so who knows?): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/schoolads/

storyline (psls): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/storyline/

supernatural ads (you'll get a lot of oc games which are WEREWOLVES AND WITCHES AND VAMPIRES ARE REAL AND THEY'RE IN [INSERT CITY] a billion times over): http://asylums.insanejournal.com/supernaturalads/

there are a bunch for ij games, as well. again, seriously you'll want to steer clear of like pbads or pbadz and so forth. sorry this wasn't sorted better or less... ugly, but it should do the trick. good luck, anon! it might take a few months if you don't find something you're looking for, but ij is imho like 70% active hp games at any given time.

(oh, a lot of games also still do ic aim! either with separate ic accounts or ic convos/threads over aim. so if you don't use aim anymore, you might want to download it again.)

thanks a lot for the links! this is super comprehensive and really helpful.c: i've looked around and i've found a game or two that catch my eye. the set-up is really different from dwrp so i can tell there's gonna be a learning curve, but i'll give it a shot because the hp bug has bitten me really hard heh.

thanks again and if you're still in the ijrp scene and i manage to get into it, maybe we'll see each other around!
