FF7 fandom is still arguing over the love triangle

annoying fans and asinine ship wars don't disappear over time

ff7 also isn't a fandom i'd describe as having ended several years ago, so

the last installment came out in the early 2000s there is not a lot of fandom left other than a couple of legbeards screaming back and forth at each other

a bunch of nerds having nostalgia boners for a game =/= fandom

you must not get out much if you really think there isn't much of a fandom left

there are plenty of people making gifs/graphics on tumblr, the entire first page of its section on ao3 is from this past week, and there are a number of people still rping from the series both here and elsewhere

sure, the current fandom's small compared to the glory days of the series, but it's definitely not dead

that was a da but you're completely missing my point. my point is that ship wars never go away no matter how old or dead the fandom might seem. i'm sorry if my ff7 example chafes your butt so much. even if op did find other members of their fandom, it's way more likely than not that they'll find someone who will get on their ass about ship-related things.

It's really a luck of the draw. Sometimes the only remnants of a fandom are the shitty ones.

there were some cool people around on LJ

and then there were the middle-aged housewife fans who banned slash on the community because it wasn't family-friendly enough for their light comedy show about POWs killing nazis (all the fanfic on the comm was already DARKER! AND! EDGIER! than the show) and deleted+banned anyone who was like "hey wait"

oh god I had forgotten that clusterfuck

I was actually fandom friends with some of the people involved until that whole thing, but I'd been gradually reexamining my upbringing & realizing how bigoted and shitty it was and

idk dumb as it sounds watching people get treated like shit for writing slash about Hogan's Heroes was kind of what made me look at my life, look at my choices, and I cut ties and changed my entire outlook on life after that

so I guess some good came of it maybe

no that is definitely some good :) i don't think it matters where your inspiration to change for the better comes from!

if me being banned for getting mad about slash helps you become a better person, then let me be banned a thousand times, and let my butt get super-flustered about slash forever, because it'll be worth it to help someone grow
