(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 04:54 am (UTC)(link)"[I]t did not seem as though he were aware there was on earth a thing called woman. He had but one passion - the right; but one thought - to overthrow the obstacle. [...] He hardly saw the roses, he ignored spring, he did not hear the carolling of the birds; the bare throat of Evadne would have moved him no more than it would have moved Aristogeiton; he, like Harmodius, thought flowers good for nothing except to conceal the sword. He was severe in his enjoyments. He chastely dropped his eyes before everything which was not the Republic. [...] Woe to the love-affair which should have risked itself beside him! If any grisette of the Place Cambrai or the Rue Saint-Jean-de-Beauvais, seeing that face of a youth escaped from college, that page's mien, those long, golden lashes, those blue eyes, that hair billowing in the wind, those rosy cheeks, those fresh lips, those exquisite teeth, had conceived an appetite for that complete aurora, and had tried her beauty on Enjolras, an astounding and terrible glance would have promptly shown her the abyss[.]"
so
there's that

(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 05:44 am (UTC)(link)literally they said something along the lines of "oh no, we're not playing enjolras as asexual and that's CANON! somebody call tumblr on us!" or something to that degree.
i don't have to convince you, anon. i'm only reporting what i know and what i've seen. i'm not calling them evil mean queer erasing hets because I don't think they are that.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 05:44 am (UTC)(link)like, you know, making nasty anon comments about a character who is, at best, asexual in canon. and, as many asexual will tell you, being asexual doesn't mean you can't fall in romantic love. So, you're also practicing another form of erasure, if we're going to get into that.
and instead try to paint her as an anti-representation homophobe.
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 05:47 am (UTC)(link)I am NOT the ones saying what they're doing is queer erasure because i don't want to bring that SJW shit into this. i AM saying it's OOC because it is.
the fact that people start thinking i'm a SJW and calling Lisa a homophobe just because I posted a literal quote from the book is the reason why I can't crit them. the SJWs have already invalidated anything I could try to say.
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 05:57 am (UTC)(link)it wasn't that comment quoting canon that came across so inflammatory. canon is canon. It's this one: http://rpanons.dreamwidth.org/42167.html?thread=122948279#cmt122948279
and there's still a pretty big issue with saying that someone is asexual but can't fall in love. that's...not what being asexual means. so even if you DID follow the asexual characterization (which is arguable) having someone slowly develop into a relationship is not going against that canon. he is a character who is VERY tied into his canon and goals there in...taken out of that canon and away from those goals.
so if you think someone who has one goal in canon, and isn't interested in anyone because of that goal can't change a little when they literally cannot follow that goal...that's a strange stance to take. If you think they can, but have issues with how it's being played, you should crit. and implying you won't be listened to because they don't take tumblr sjw seriously is silly if you have a point that isn't being a tumblr sjw.
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 06:04 am (UTC)(link)i'm not saying enjolras is asexual. i'm saying enjolras being in a relationship with anybody is OOC. that's a big difference. hugo does use the word "chaste" but that is the only insight he gives us into enjolras' desire for sex. you don't seem to be reading all of the quote that i left.
"Woe to the love-affair which should have risked itself beside him! If any grisette of the Place Cambrai or the Rue Saint-Jean-de-Beauvais, seeing that face of a youth escaped from college, that page's mien, those long, golden lashes, those blue eyes, that hair billowing in the wind, those rosy cheeks, those fresh lips, those exquisite teeth, had conceived an appetite for that complete aurora, and had tried her beauty on Enjolras, an astounding and terrible glance would have promptly shown her the abyss."
There's all of that, which isn't necessarily talking about a sexual relationship.
"He had but one passion - the right; but one thought - to overthrow the obstacle. [...] He hardly saw the roses, he ignored spring, he did not hear the carolling of the birds; the bare throat of Evadne would have moved him no more than it would have moved Aristogeiton"
The roses and spring Hugo is talking about here are not literal roses and literal spring.
In the end, it doesn't matter how much they've built up the relationship or for how long, because Hugo made his intentions of Enjolras' character extremely, extremely clear. He didn't write "the bare throat of Evadne would have eventually moved him".
I completely agree with you that Enjolras is a man driven by very clear goals in his canon - but the Games is a ... game... where Enjolras would, in my mind, immediately take up very, very similar goals. The Hunger Games is a series about rebellion and revolution, and Enjolras would be so embroiled in that that there would be no way he would be involved in a romantic relationship. And you don't have to take my word for it, because that is exactly what Victor Hugo wrote.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 06:11 am (UTC)(link)I don't think, based on just the text, that these developments are inherently OOC. If he was ignoring the rebellion for romance, maybe, yeah. but in game, the romance has been extremely down played in comparison to his rebellious activity. it does get played up more on plurk, but...plurk.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-27 06:32 am (UTC)(link)From what I understand of Les Mis, it seems more like he'd disapprove?? I mean, I get that the muns are like bffls but as far as the characters go, I dunno, I'm not convinced.
