Unfunny wanky stereotypes

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Seconding the anon above, but with a few extra pointers.

Don't be afraid of being a jerk in character or even of targetting 'innocents' who are attached to the sort of characters or even the specific characters they go after specifically in canon. Depending on how they're a dick, associated people are going to get the sharp end of the stick too. Of course, this goes in hand with what the anon said, be clear with the interactions you're going for, since it's much more easier to make people feel uncomfortable when you're playing this kind of character than otherwise.

On the other side of things, again, depending on the character, they aren't going to be a dick to everyone they meet. Even this kind of character need positive CR. Depending on the game you're sending the character you have in mind to, their motivations and who they'll be a jerk to will change, especially if their survival or comfort depends on it. Depending on how they work, they'll be wanting to try and get a support network going, lackeys. Maybe even friends.

Don't forget about your characters motivations or goals! It's much easier to have a gameplan with the above when you know what they want (or don't want) out of what the game has available. Combine the two in ways you'll personally get a kick out of.

Most importantly of all, have fun. Don't let yourself feel too restricted by the need to play nice in game, or like you have to minimize or take out the elements that make the character who they are. Don't be afraid to poke fun at the character if it's the sort of thing you'd do.

And don't forget, when you're playing a troll, OOC communication becomes extra important, and that's where you want to be friendly. If you're the sort of person who minimizes OOC communication with other players, you might want to consider opening up a bit more depending on what the out of game atmosphere there is like.

+1
