Unfunny wanky stereotypes
Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: general question
(Anonymous) 2014-02-22 09:09 am (UTC)(link)Like, you've got a character like Calhoun from Wreck-It Ralph, who'd totally be fucking abusing profanity if she was from a different canon.
"All right, ladies! The kitten whispers and tickle fights stop now!"
"Doomsday and Armageddon just had a baby and it is UGLY!"
"You wanna go pee-pee in your big boy slacks? Keep it to yourself."
And so forth and so on. Lots of family friendly cursing. And it would be really off if you plunk her down in...I don't know, Crux Fleet and then have her use shit and fuck and so on, because canon circumstances would imply, I'd argue, that they wouldn't necessarily think, "Oh! I would totally say damn, but I cannot for this game restrains my language. Now that I am free, I can swear like a sailor."
Then you've got other characters who're from Earth and would totally be cursing but can't because their show airs on some family friendly station at a family friendly time. Like Disney. But unlike the first example, they'd actually think, "I am in a really bad situation. Fuck."
Basically, it comes down to the characters but also the canon. Some canons? Shards and crackdust or grife would be their profanity. Even if they were transplanted into a jamjar they wouldn't jump to fuck, their minds would automatically go to crivens and cripes. Others would totally say fuck but don't just because of the rating constraints. I wouldn't overdo it with the latter but...sure, dropping the occasional fuck/damn/etc in appropriate situations (especially given how DW RP jamjars might be a little heavier on the grimdark horror torture than canon circumstances might be: even the most proper in their language might be brought to their breaking point under the right circumstances) is legit.
