how do y'all approach getting ships for your ocs in games?

do you try to stick with other ocs, or do you like to ship with canon characters?

what kind of oc ship that you've played out has been your favorite?

I just go where my character has chemistry, really. If my character likes an la character, then I ship them. If my character likes an anime character, then I ship it. Whichever characters my have chemistry with and I think the other player is into it too, I'll go with it.

None of my OCs have ever been in a ship in game yet, but I did have fun with my one OC flirting with an anime character who didn't realize they were a vampire. They weren't used to be treating so informally and with such friendliness like that so it was refreshing for them.

I attempt to allow the ship to play out organically in game. My character may be actively looking, but they're going to strike out a fair number of times and I know it. If good chemistry in scenes happens and the other player is amenable, then the ship is more likely.

Honestly, though, I don't look to OCs or canons, drawn or live action specifically. I think limiting myself just sets a pre-existing block that doesn't make any IC sense. I prefer to be open-ended on it.

My current favorite ship I've got an OC in is a sort of awkward hateship with glimmers of other emotions. Both characters are complete morons about it as a rule, though they're getting smarter as time goes about how to treat each other. It's a canon/OC ship, and it used to get a bit of wank, but I think people are sort of used to it by now mostly. The ones who don't want to deal with it opted out ages ago, and the rest either enjoy the stupidity or don't care. No skin off my hide. We have fun and we put mature locks up when we need to. No harm no foul.

I've actually played out two ships that involved an OC and a canon character, one with one of my OCs and another in which I played the canon character.

The first involved my OC who is a deluded girl who thought she was a doll, it was a way of coping with the fact that a good part of her body had to be rebuilt with prosthetic parts after a horrific accident when she was young, and a Victorian gentlemen type who was willing to was attracted to her because her view of the world as a doll fit with how he normally treated women.

It was actually really cute, but also had a level of subtext that made it rather messed up and fun to play out.

The other involved two zombies. The OC couldn't eat processed food and refused to leave her home because she was worried about hurting, so my girl would often kill wildlife for sport and bring her the raw meat so she wouldn't starve. This one was easily my favorite of the two.

So my general thought on the OC x Canon character topic is that if they have something in common to justify the trope, personality or background-wise, it can work out.
