Unfunny wanky stereotypes

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

tbh it really bothers me when people go "but they would TOTALLY be swearing if it weren't for *whatever*!" and then proceed to have their characters swear like sailors

it usually reads as really jarringly out of voice for me, and not everyone is going to swear all the motherfucking goddamned time just because they are a MATURE! ADULT! *INSERT TRAIT THAT IMPLIES SWEARING!* because a lot of people just don't swear at all or keep it to a low level, or have certain words that they WILL NOT USE. (I have never heard my mom say the word fuck, frex.)

and when it gets to the point where they are swearing every other line, it sometimes seems like the player is trying to hard to look like they're playing a totally mature character for real! in a really juvenile way.

Fair enough! I am also wanting not to stray too far from the constraints of canon because they're part of what makes it what it is.

I never mentioned swearing every other line though. That would be extremely dumb.

fair enough, op C: i've definitely seen people do it, but i will trust you know where the line between extrapolation and tryhard is!
