rpa mod, i don't know if you are the one to speak to here, but since this discussion is being partly conducted on your community, i want to note that ... the fact that this lifeaftr mod discussion turned into some kind of proving game around the ethics out of outing wankers in dwrp that *followed the mods onto plurk with socks* feels wrong to me. i don't think you did something wrong here, mind you, but for years the rp community has been sick of wankgate because we feel it fosters harassment.
wankgate has rules against harassment which it barely enforces, but we always hear wankgate drama can be ignored. it wasn't ignored. people followed the mods onto plurk and forced them to air their laundry about this year old drama. with respect to players who have to interact with these mods and with respect to those players wanting this addressed, as i know this is a delicate situation, the way this has been handled borders uncomfortably on harassment to me. i'm an uninvolved party. i am not in this game and i only know the friends of the friends of these players in the most peripheral sense. but i have a lot of concerns right now with how things are going on your sister community and because of your sister (or satellite?) community. this sock incident raises a concerning precedent in some ways.
please tell me if i am overreacting myself here. if i'm overreacting to an overreaction, i will accept a dose of perspective, but i think at this point wg seems to be manufacturing non-wank that is escalating into such borderline levels of harassment that someone may plausibly complain to denise. or maybe it's just that this sort of thing, in past incidents when it happened, seemed to have at least some possible justification, but during these slow days of wg, this is increasingly looking like mass hysteria to me? like i said, please hit me with a dose of perspective if i'm reacting too strongly, but i figured i'd put this on the "concern" page at least since you are holding the only moderated discussion of the issue.
My co-mod and I don't mod Wankgate and presently do not own Plurk, so we therefore can't moderate what goes on in either community- and it would set a concerning precedent for us, to attempt to interfere in another community's modding. As you have concerns with Wankgate, we advise you to bring them to their mod team. We will continue to freeze or delete threads here on RPA that get out of hand, and/or violate DW's terms of service.
Having spoken with Denise myself in the past regarding the admin team's views on anon comms and the negative, hurtful remarks of anons, I do wish you a great deal of luck in approaching them!
As you appear to also be arguing in bad faith here and here, my co-mod and I can't quite believe you're as "uninvolved" as you claim. The caps provided, and the discussion they have fostered, will remain up.
