Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Canon reviewed Young Justice (particularly the first season) recently and it really gets under my skin that no one gives a shit about Kaldur except me. Not even the other characters. One might say, especially not the other characters.

When posting this, I knew that this would be if not the first response, then at least one of them.

sorry, anon, but i feel there's some truth to it. black/dark-skinned characters are typically not popular, especially in a cast of all white characters. why do you think they're unoften roleplayed?

It's okay anon I love Kaldur too! He's great.

And as for why most people don't care much about him... Some of that is his own personality. He's very competent, and he has all his shit together, but as far as I can tell, he doesn't often loosen up and joke around the way Robin, Kid Flash, etc. do. He's really the adult of the group from the very beginning, and him taking the role of leader only cements that.

We are one in spirit anon. That was everything I felt when watching season one. invasion changed it a little bit, but then they did it all over again by the end.

unfortunately i have to agree with the first anon, too. kaldur having darker skin automatically puts him in territory when everyone goes "oh but i don't know how to play a black person! they're too intimidating! i'll get wanked on!!!" ignoring that kaldur is atlantean and him having gills is more of a big deal than him having darker skin. rpers are more casually racist than they will ever like to admit. they still act like anyone who is poc and not japanese is from another species.

can we not do the asian oppression olympics thing again

you're an idiot. it's not about oppression olympics, it's about the fact that people have no problem playing japanese characters when they play them from an anime. no one looks at anime and goes 'we can't play these character because we wouldn't want to get wanked on for screwing up a poc.' that's why even with anime you find most dark-skinned characters are never played.

but put a japanese character into a live action show from the us and suddenly their a poc that can't be played right because it's 'oh so intimidating' again. it's bullshit.

that tends to be much easier to avoid when you don't try to start it.

hahaha the funny part is that in season two Black Manta, who only just really started to get to know him, showed more concern when Kaldur got hurt and later seemingly died than his teammates and supposed best friends that he's known and worked alongside (some of them for years) ever did when he got hurt or seemingly died in season one, multiple times. Like Jesus, no wonder he kept throwing longing looks back at his dad after they did the big reveal.

As for his lack of fanbase, I think some of it is also that he's got the least cartoony personality out of the kids on the show. Though it's not like more stoic characters from other franchises never get played... so.
