what good rp things have happened to y'all lately?

all you can do is discuss with them why it's not worth it and be supportive and say things like i know you'll do the right thing eventually. in my experience if you just go at someone telling them how fucked up their relationship they get totally overwhelmed and shut down and feel shitty about themselves. other than that nudge them towards getting professional help because there's no way you can fix it. ESPECIALLY if it's your parent. you'd burn out before you ever got anywhere.

if you can't get them to a professional though you need to wash your hands of it or it will destroy you emotionally and you have to put your mental health first.

As a person who often sleeps past noon when she doesn't have work or class? I consider that rude. It's one thing if people are having a loud conversation outside of your room when they know you're asleep (and even then, I'd be extremely hesitant to ask them to move the conversation if I were a guest), but dogs and dogs, and you can't expect other people (much less animals) to accommodate your weird sleep schedule if you're a guest.

And it's also rude as fuck to shout in someone else's house.

do whatever you can to get away from it in the meantime. go to a friend's house. go to the movies. go to the library and stay as long as possible. if you can't get out of the house, find a way to avoid listening to the fighting--when my mom and stepdad did this shit, i always found a long RPG to play and absorbed myself in it as much as possible while they were having screaming matches.

something that helps drown out external sound is to buy a pair of earplugs, then put on headphones and blast them at top volume. you won't be able to hear shit outside of whatever you're listening to through the headphones and you won't damage your hearing as long as you have the earplugs in.

luckily i don't live with my parents anymore but i'm visiting family for the holidays and they're here too (their roommate's family is visiting and their roommate doesn't want the family to assume they're dating because they're living together but at least they're giving my parent enough money to stay in a motel room for a while) and i just can't stand it.

i don't want to od to kill myself but god i am just depressed as hell dealing with this and i don't want to leave feeling depressed about this.

they can't afford professional help. i'm tempted to suggest they try applying for disability for their depression even if it's just temporary, at least they could get some therapy.

i don't know how it would work out though. they can't keep a job because of their depression and drinking problems. they have a history of abuse (being abused and abusing others) so they don't get along with people too well. they sleep a lot. they get crazy depressive moods.
