Happy Holidays

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I wouldn't ever imply that internet-savvy people play fucking Facebook games or use chat systems that don't exist anymore...

dad claims to be a former hacker but all he does is pirate games/movies. he recently got a facebook and likes to post pictures of his guns. sometimes he chats on yahoo

mom chats on yahoo and fubar.com and plays on facebook (former farmville addict)

Dad hangs out on forums all day, discussing stocks and the US economy.

I am a mom who has a daughter who's probably older than 50% of the anons here. We both RP, though not together online. I RP, play MMORPGs, other games that interest me, read about stuff that interests me, post and read fanfics, pretty much what most people do. I don't chat much (prefer email due to time constraints) and I have no interest in Facebook.

Parents are people like anyone else. They have varying interests when online the same as everybody does.

yeah, but many of them grew up when computers weren't widespread or as convenient as today. you aren't the only ~old~ anon around either, so some anons' parents are around 50 years old.

I know I'm not the only "old" anon. That said, come closer so I can hit you with my cane. My kid is 20, so I'm pushing into that territory. I find my way around my computer and the net quite well, thanks. Apple came out in late 70s, so these 50-somethings probably do alright.

i don't have a relationship with my parents, but my grandfather plays on poker game sites and frequents craigslist. he gets into internet arguments sometimes and whenever i fix something on his computer, he usually always has the capslock key on, so you can guess what his arguments look like.

my mom uses lj and tumblr a lot because she's big on fanfic and fandoms, she was a bnf back in the days of e-mail lists (thankfully not a wanky bnf from what i can tell, but i don't really look into it just in case). she used to be mostly book fandoms but she's starting to get into jdramas and anime; i had to explain the concept of "moe" to her and that was about the weirdest conversation of my life.

my dad reads a lot of webcomics and tech blogs but doesn't chat or do much realtime interaction, so he tends to pick up on random memes and net-culture stuff but in a kind of adorably out-of-touch way. he discovered "the cake is a lie!" a while ago and still thinks it's hilarious, and i've never been able to bring myself to tell him how painfully oldmeme it is.

my dad mods a yahoo group for people from his home country wanting to immigrate to ours

My dad plays MMOs and games over Steam, mostly Civ 5. He also uses facebook a lot, his facebook activity tends to be reviewing movies and posting pictures of his food when he cooks or goes to restaurants.

that is cute anon

Oh, man. Civilization will drain your life. I feel for him. Ask your dad if he's seen this ad that came out before Civ V was released: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccn9V8V10q4

Pretty sure he'll laugh.
