Happy Holidays

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

i personally i never liked rtd's writing but there were likable characters and enough decent episodes during his run that i could overlook his shitty finales. and many of the best standalone episodes were written by (gasp) steven moffat. if moffat meant a series of eps like blink and the doctor dances, why shouldn't i have been excited.

and series 5 was GOOD. i think it was the most solid series in doctor who history. unfortunately, moffat should have stopped right there because it only went downhill, starting with river song's origin story. we couldn't have known it'd be that bad.

it's disappointing to me because doctor who's premise has a lot of potential to be fun, but the showrunners can't keep their egos in check and we get shit like time of the doctor and the end of time.

maybe it's naive, but i like to think there's still someone out there who could take the reins and salvage it. but there probably isn't.

Yeah, I think Moffat's a writer who works best with limitations. He can write really tight and powerful stuff but if left to his own devices he tends to get a bit caught up in his own ideas and the execution suffers. His less desirable tendencies are also a lot less obvious when he's only writing the occasional episode, rather than having a hand in literally every one. He's a better writer of single episodes than a showrunner by far.
