Happy Holidays

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

ugh i've been sitting on these tags for almost a week and a half now because i can't come up with a good, engaging response. everything i write comes out flat as fuck.

at this point i'm half tempted to just bang up something not awful and hit submit just so the damn thread can roll along again. but good goddamn my tags are SO BORING.

what do y'all do when you've got tag constipation, just push forward and try to get things moving again, or wait til you've got something good written, however long that takes?

Usually I give it a week to think up something more engaging, but after that I prioritize just getting SOMETHING written if I really value the thread.

Who knows, you could just be overly critical of yourself right now and what you're writing could be fine.

All else fails, just talk to whoever your threading with? they may have some ideas on a different direction to go that may be more interesting.

If there was a question, give a simple answer.

Make your character ask a question -> there is something for the other to reply and react to.

I know it can be hard to post a minimal tag if you're used to writing a few paragraphs or something but it's not the end of the world.

I talk to the person (or people) I'm threading with. Sometimes I get the all clear to take as long as I want; other times we get to talking and I get inspired to write something write away. On average, I am reassured that one mediocre tag won't kill the thread, and I go ahead and write it and see that, yeah, it really wasn't a big deal after all.

after a week and a half? I'd just tag. If I was on the receiving end of that, I'd much rather get one mediocre tag in that time frame rather than nothing. Usually if they take that much time to respond, I try to make my replies more engaging/easier to reply to.

Freewriting sometimes works for me.

http://750words.com/

I sometimes use that because it's a big blank field and something about it helps me focus long enough to do it.

It might not work for you but in general if I'm getting clogged up on writing for some reason freewriting helps things flow again.
