i keep wanting a game based on twewy but they always fail and i don't know how i would make one work

Set it in some real world city, but one with an interesting atmosphere and unique presence. So less Bismark, North Dakota, and more London.

I'd also shift the focus away from the one week game and more into the overarching metaplot. Like have the point of it be less one week game and more some sort of political struggle between the Conductor and the Composer, the Reapers and the Angels, or something bigger, with the city their gameboard. Maybe make it faction based, like...the top Reapers got all slaughtered for some unknown to the players reason, and so now everyone's scrambling to reach the top.

And you could play around with things a bit, like have certain Reapers reach out to talented humans who would thrive and basically offer them a deal: if they die, the Reaper will manipulate things so that they will be entered in the game, and if they survive they can become a Reaper, achieve immortality, and basically help this person rise to the top. Stuff like that. Games are every other month, maybe, because due to the intense decimation of the Reaper ranks they desperately need more live bodies, and how else are they going to get them...?

It's not straight up canon, but like Fate/, I think doing a straight up rendition of the plot will always fail.
