Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

she's on this new kick where she claims she's mentally disabled and has started fighting against schooling for mentally disabled children. she firmly believes it's a crime (perpetrated by rich white men like our father) to tell these children they can be functioning members of society and that trying to prepare them for their lives ahead (handling money, getting a job, etc) is cruel.

This makes me legit angry because she's using SJ as an excuse as to why she shouldn't have to work. OP, I really hope your parents will listen to you because her behavior and attitude are unacceptable. You have every right to be angry with her. I don't know if it's possible, but see if you or your can talk to her therapist; if this behavior continues (and it probably will) an intervention may be in order because your sister needs to realize that she can't use her disorder as an excuse to not try and that she won't be taken care of forever. The fact that she's not consistently taking her meds while trying to get new ones is really concerning, especially since she refuses to get legitimately tested.

I hope your parents listen to you and that things start to improve soon. Good luck.

+1

This is just disgusting.

My sister is severely mentally disabled (Downs and autism) and I have a lot of mixed feelings about the special education system as it stands in America-- mental disabilities are not one-size-fits-all, and unfortunately, not everyone with those disabilities will be able to function independently. But anyone who wants those with mental disabilities to be institutionalized, I want to smack in the face. Hard.
