you guys know you can wash your vag right
this "self cleaning vagina" business doesn't mean you can't wash your crotch with soap as long as you aren't stuffing it inside you

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually I find washing with soap makes me smell off because it unbalances my pH level. I'd suggest a feminine wash that's slightly more acidic than soap.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
You sound so fucking clueless and ignorant rn.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't get your panties in a bunch OP used vagina to generally mean vulva and so did I. Wash your labia.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
ew.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
feminine wash and douching is harmful, don't listen to this anon

soap and water as long as you don't put it up inside your vagina is the way to go. If you need to clean inside your vagina use only your fingers

if you smell off you might have a yeast infection

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
nobody said anything about douching, although a lot of women do like to gently douche with warm water after sex to remove semen funk, and as far as i know this isn't harmful. gentle soap or feminine wash on the exterior vulva is fine (source: my gynecologist) but water is enough for most women. if you've got hair down there, it can trap odors so you might want to give your pubes a scrub.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
the news that semen funk is a thing just made any interest in putting a penis inside me shrivel completely and die

why can't sex organs and their byproducts smell like scented candles or something

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Because then people might try to eat them.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
don't people do that already?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Idg the outrage. been using fem wash for years and I've never had any problems. I've never even had a yeast infection

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
your experience =/= everybody else's

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
neither does yours, cupcake

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
everyone keeps forgetting that their vagina isn't the ur-vagina

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
do you me wash it with soap that isn't your body wash? i've seen summer's eve products at the grocery store and i've always been tempted to try it. anyone have experience or know if those do more good than harm?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
use mild soap that's unscented if you have it but your body wash is probably okay as long as you a) rinse well and b) never put it INSIDE your body.

on summer's eve-

it increases the risk of allergic reactions, yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, and other dermatologic conditions.

google anything doctors have to say about summer's eve. seriously.

(anon from above vag-washing thread who used to have b.v probs)

yeah, i just use a gentle/unscented soap on the outside--not even really between the labia and stuff because my shit is so sensitive that even mild soaps between my minora labia (not even necessarily inside me) will give me a week of bacterial vaginosis. my current routine works rly well for me and i haven't had any problems for ages when i used to seriously wonder on a regular basis if my lady innards were just breaking for no reason

i'd even gone and got a pap for it and they had no guidance for me, really. just antibiotics.

Medical anon here.

You guys know the vagina is the part inside, right? THAT is the part they are talking about when they talk about a self-cleaning vagina. Do not put soap inside your vagina.

Your vulva which is the OUTSIDE part is the part you want to keep clean.

Use soap and water and wash it like any other part of your body. Use mild soap and avoid anything heavily perfumed. Even completely healthy vaginas will usually have a slight smell going on.

Wipe completely and wipe front to back.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't want us to talk about cleaning our vaginas anymore.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
the inside of the vagina (the hole) is self-cleaning and doesn't really need to be washed

the outer FLAPS are what you need to wash. don't go shoving soap up your vaginas, guys. it's ok to wash the outside.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
anon don't bring up vagina hygiene again

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
considering how undereducated most women are about their genitals, i can give it a pass

one awkward cooch thread is always better than someone maiming themselves because they didn't know better

(Anonymous) 2013-12-05 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
ik but this was so depressing
