Sentinel and Guide Meme: The Game

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
I think it'd be awesome if someone took the basic concept of the sentinel and guide meme and worked it into a game. People being pulled in could find themselves suddenly being Sentinels or Guides or just normal people (or it'd be interesting as an AU maybe.) And then like the initial mingling threads could be Unbound parties where people can try to find their partner or sentinels can talk to other sentinels and bad life choice or guides can talk hardest lives and shit. And normal people can either be jealous or celebrate the free food or whatever.

It'd sort of be slice of lifey but maybe someone can come up with an awesome overarching plot or something great for events. Maybe they end up switching roles for a week. Or everyone is powerless. Or. Something. idk. This is why someone else should make this happen.

as someone who has actually seen the series this trope is based on and have played a character from it, i'd be way interested in playing in a game where this is an aspect!!!

but it would be kind of pointless in a slice of life setting imo. the main point of the powers are that sentinels are the great guardians of their tribes or w/e, and you don't really need enhanced hearing or a mystical life partner to go to the grocery store. i think it would work better in a setting where the enhanced senses would work for the characters. a world limited by no tech? some jamjar lost island? huge au?

unless this was like a smut/shipping game, in which case yeah slice of life would be fine and i'd still probably be interested, but with way different characters

+1

the sentinels need something to be active about. SOL takes away the point of their strengths and their weaknesses. I love the idea of a game, wouldn't be interested in house building.

now i've been giving this some thought. i'm torn between just bringing in characters with their original memories but new powers, but what about just a regular magic cop au game? players get to pick which category their character would fall under, au them to fit the setting and their new training, and throw them out into the wild world. are au games still even a thing?

and the overarching drama could be something about idk the sentinels and/or guides wanting to break out of their assumed roles and responsibilities. escapes, street crime, SPYING, soul bonding, etc. the biggest issue i see is pairing guides and sentinels up without screwing anyone over with squatting and shifting romance/shipping options. random selection and personal choice and shuffling of pairs all have their downsides.
