It reminds me of a story

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

They're tied to your 3ds console, so if your 3ds breaks, or it's lost or stolen, Nintendo won't replace your digital downloads.

seriously? I'd think they'd be tied to your nintendo account.

Yeah, your purchases are tied to the system (just like the Wii U). Your Nintendo account isn't even tied to your 3DS as far as I can tell. I have heard of people being able to transfer stuff over to another new 3DS but it sounds like they had to call Nintendo up and jump through a ton of hoops, and I have no idea how they even figured out what the guy had bought since there's no accounts on the 3DS...

You can register the 3DS on your club nintendo account, so that verifies who the owner is, and you get a 90 day extension of your warranty for doing so if the 3DS is new (refurbs don't get that, but still good to register).

While registration isn't required for warranty, it is good to do. Take it from someone who had their PSP stolen, registration means you have a place to find that serial besides the device. Register if you haven't already.

Also, depending on how you pay, there are things that can be looked up based on the payment records. This is where a credit card has more of an advantage and it wouldn't hurt to keep a record of codes redeemed for eshop funds, because those can be used as verification as well. Just keeping the codes in a text file can be enough (though I recommend keeping the card itself until you have spent all the funds in case of an issue).

Now, can't say any of this is for sure, I sure don't work for Nintendo, but I have worked for a company that makes consoles and a lot of that was how we verified accounts that people lost access to. You'd actually be amazed at what sort of records exist to the people who handle that stuff to prove who owns the stuff in case of theft.

cool, thanks for the info, that's good to know!

I'm still nervous about it, though--when I registered my 3DS, it came up as a standard blue 3DS, even though I bought the limited edition Fire Emblem: Awakening bundle. I also couldn't figure out how to register FE:A since it came installed on the system. I'm nervous that if I ever lost my 3DS or if it got stolen that I wouldn't get at least FE:A back.

Contact customer service. I downloaded FE:A and got it on Club Nintendo. Digital titles are just a little bit different than physical titles. There's a survey involved, among other things.
