Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

FEEDBACK POST?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-08 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
how do you think it was? i personally really liked it.

Re: FEEDBACK POST?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-08 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
extremely disappointed they won't consider a new player class just because they can't find a way to implement it and they haven't come up with ideas on how to make travel easier yet which basically translates to we might be lucky revamped transportation by beginning of next year.

also, I don't even play ocs but I find some of their excuses for them to be flimsy. there's tons of canons where you have to go in as blind as you are to ocs because there's so little info/resources out there.

but why would they just introduce a player class without a way to make it work? it sucks but it's a really valid reason.

after all, if they can't actually put the player class into a role, it' becomes nothing but an empty title.

Re: FEEDBACK POST?

perhaps that was a bad way to word it, I just thought by now finally they would have gotten around to adding more. the idea of more classes has been brought up every once in a while ever since the game opened, so they've had a long time to think up of something to make them work. if they haven't found a way now I don't think we'll ever see any new player classes. It's disappointing to me because the selection of classes is a bit limiting.

maybe it's just a kneejerk reaction to seeing a post where for the majority of it just says stuff we already knew like the fossil thing, declining ideas, or saying we'll think about doing this in the future, when the "future" will be several months to a year down the line knowing their record.

That makes sense. But with how much the game has really changed over the years, I don't think they spent too much time focusing on a new trainer class as they did trying to fix the other parts of the game.

I've seen some players discuss coordinators, and that just looks complicated as hell. But I'm also canon blind so I'm not even sure how anyone would make that work in Route's setting.

Maybe if we keep prodding them on things, we'll get faster changes. They're all back so we can just keep asking them to fix things until they're fixed.

As someone who knows canon pretty well (well game wise, I only know some things about the anime) here's how I would do it. Benefits for Coordinators are they don't have to get gym badges to use HMs, they get something like a random flying type pokemon with fly as a second starter so they can travel to contest locations easier, and they get like a 2x faster climb in happiness/friendship levels compared to the rest of the classes. Contest stats are eliminated and instead of giving them Pokeblocks/Poffins like in the games, Coordinators have to just take good care of them like keeping a Pokemon's hair/fur brushed and free of tangles. Coordinators focus on making their pokemon moves look pretty and giving a performance. Contests are held once a month in a random location in either Kanto/Johto and sign ups are done in a similar fashion that bug catching contests are. You sign up, give a description of your pokemon's performance and the mods pick which one they like best. Prizes include ribbons and one of the following: rare tms, a shiny pokemon of your choice, perhaps even pokemon with dream world abilities or the chance to star in your own tv show in Fuschia City (there is tv studios down there right?)

but that's just what I thought up of off the top of my head. perhaps I'll c/p this to the mods later.

It was okay. Didn't actually say very much, but was an okay job of addressing things.

Re: FEEDBACK POST?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-08 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
it wasn't terrible, but they didn't address some of the specific concerns players had on the post, just the ones that got brought up the most often.

the answers also all seemed to be the same: "we're considering it, but maybe. we're considering it, but probably not. we're considering it, but no."

i'm not sure i trust them to not be slow as molasses or to actually answer the remaining questions/suggestions personally, either.

note that i don't dislike the game or the mods: that's just what i thought when reading the post. since i am used to and expect this from the mods, and enjoy the game despite it, i don't really care.

I'm not entirely thrilled with the idea of letting OCs in, but I know that's a personal preference thing and other people sound excited about it.

Re: FEEDBACK POST?

I have to agree that it was a lot of words that didn't actually say very much. "We're considering it, so maybe" on a lot of things, very few actual answers. That's what I've come to expect from the mod team, so I'm not too mad about it, but it gets frustrating sometimes.

Also not pleased about OCs.

I was glad they straight-up acknowledged they dropped the ball on modding and apologized, though.

"Also not pleased about OCs."

Out of curiosity, why not? I can understand where DWRP's dislike of OCs comes from (Plus, I've seen reasons like "OC players never want to let go of powers" and "OCs have no room for growth!") but I think we should trust the mods to keep out any really bad ones. That's part of what they do, isn't it? Plus, they'll probably judge OC apps more harshly than they do canon apps.

Because I don't like them? It's a matter of personal taste, I didn't say shit about not trusting the mods.

Since you said you weren't please about the possibility of OCs being admitted into the game, I kind of understood that you didn't like them. I was just curious as to why.

I'm a little iffy on the idea of OCs, and that's mostly because of lack of easy access to the character's canon. I've seen a lot of good OCs around, but sometimes it's just more difficult to establish a connection between characters since you can't just quickly read a wiki and get a vague idea. Sure, I could read the apps, but a lot of the time, apps sound pretentious and it really draws me out of the experience/bores me.

What makes OCs different than a canon you don't know?

da

(Anonymous) 2013-09-11 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
A canon I don't know is still something that's been vetted and gone through the editorial process, been published and (if it's popular enough to be RP'd from) become successful. Sure, that doesn't mean it's good, but there's an element of quality control there.

That said, I'm not entirely against playing with OCs, but so far I've never seen one that's caught my interest. I keep trying to pinpoint why, but I haven't quite figured it out.

Any thoughts on the apparently happening Activity Check changes?

i haven't heard about this. what kind of changes?

Re: ROUTE 29

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
From the draft Sunny posted on her plurk, it doesn't look like anything major. Just making sure people don't always use the same person for activity check. The rest is just about the same.

Re: ROUTE 29

How many people typically do that though?

Re: ROUTE 29

it's probably because of the homestuck!rose player, who's known for being really insular and threading with mostly the same homestuck castmates.
