I think my main problem with this game is that everything is far too planned for my tastes. Nothing happens unless you're in constant communication on plurk or in PMs with the person you want to play with, event happenings are plotted out way in advance...

I like my RP to be spontaneous and go places I never expected it to. Which, I understand is unreasonable in a game that depends on having so many smut tags per month but still.

It's partially the result of the AC smut requirement, but it's also partially a result of the overall speed of the game and players (not a complaint, just an observation).

I tend to play fast, loose and improvisational everywhere but CoA. In Ariel, that doesn't work. Like, at all. I'd love to be able to just toss my characters into a thread and let it go, without any planning as to what the outcome will be, but it just isn't feasible. I need those 10 smut comments for AC, and it might take most of the month to get to the porn. That's the part where you've got it.

The other problem is the OOC/IC time ratio combined with slower taggers (though, yeah, they go hand in hand). I can't not play my character until a previous thread has reached its conclusion, unless I have some idea what's going to happen in it, or where it's going to go. If I wait for that to happen IC, I'm going to be waiting for a while and maybe for a long while. Even if the thread moves quickly enough, I have to wait 3 more days OOC for one day to pass IC and move my character on, unless I forward date something. If I'm forward dating, I still need to be planning because I'm ahead of game time and the other player needs to know where/how/what their character is to some reasonable degree. That means they need to have a speedy partner and nothing dangling, or to some idea of the conclusion.

All of that's before the fact that you're dealing with extreme kink subject matter, and that's generally something that works better without surprises.

I post opens and tag in to network posts and open logs without asking first, but overall yeah. The subject-matter, the speed, the timing, and the AC all pretty much mean you really do have to do a ton of communicating ooc to get anything done. I think it's worth it, and I really enjoy the game, but it does take a lot more organization and communication than a lot of games.

I think as long as you've got enough smut planned to make AC, you can leave other things open for spontaneity. It's likely that those spontaneous threads will go more slowly than the AC-planned ones, simply for the sake of people making the requirement first and then playing the other stuff, but I think you can have them.

I tend to do a basic amount of planning--an idea of what we'd like in the thread but I've never had a thread planned complete from start to finish.

Right now I have a few threads set up from the CR meme or the plot post, but I still have 3 that were just open posts I tagged into so not everything has to be planned.

I've heard about how welcoming this game is, but I feel like the players here aren't really interested in playing with me. I've been tagging around the CR meme, but most of those plans have fallen through. Sorry, I don't mean to whine. It's just a little frustrating.

What should I do? I wish people would tell me if I were boring or OOC, because at least then I would know for sure.

do you offer specific kinks or suggestions or just a generic "we should do something sometime"? from my observation offering more unusual kinks on the cr meme generates a lot of interest, and by that i don't mean bondage, i mean offering sounding or bloodplay or dominance-oriented scenes, although for the latter you'll get more takers if you have a dominant character

Based on the way the game works (and RL) many people are just now getting to things planned out on the last CR meme.

How long have you been in game? What type of character do you play? You said you tagged the CR meme, have you tried just tagging into open posts? Plenty of those do go up and I know personally I don't mind if someone tags in later.

everything the above anons suggestion, plus when the next hmd goes up, put that you're uncertain about your characterization in it. ask for feedback in helping you make your character more interesting if they're not.

don't be afraid to take it outside of the cr meme and to pms if you have something you want to work out with someone. i've found a lot of times stuff that gets planned and isn't solidly worked out gets pushed aside because there'll always be another cr meme to replan those things and events and random tags sort of take up someone's time. make the plans. solidify them. offer to set up a log.
