Yer wonderful

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Same here, and it also has the advantage of deterring a lot of the lazy players.

could you explain what you mean by that? not trying to be snide or mean but i'm not understanding the correlation between lazy players and game style.

they probably mean because journal-style involves having to keep up with an add-remove list, which takes effort a lot of players are too lazy to put in.

personally i like it because i think it builds a more friendly community feel to the game when you have to at least acknowledge who's coming and going in it.

clunky, inefficient, a pain in the ass as a moderator to manage with the add/drop lists and journal accounts, tittybaby players who throw hissyfits and delete their journals means all those threads get lost forever, encourages insular cliqueyness by making friend filters or just not adding other people

they're archaic and i'm glad they're not popular anymore.

your opinion is not everyone's opinion

plus the vast majority of games out there now are comm-based anyway. a small handful of people voicing appreciation for the journal-based format is not going to hurt you or your pretendy funtimes any. go app at one of the hundred games that exist in the style you like and butt out.

wow defensive much

i was stating my opinion no different than what the other anons were

i'm not shitting on them for liking a journal game. good for them for liking something that makes them happy. what they do to have fun has no affect on my ability to have fun.

i don't like them, they don't make me happy. i think journal games are archaic and inefficient, and i think this is why they aren't popular anymore.

tbf, anons who like journal style pretty much always get jumped on for all of the reasons you named every single time they dare to express their like for their format of choice

everybody knows the reasons most people like comm-based

is it really necessary to voice your opinion here when everybody knows your opinion because it is the majority opinion of dwrp anyway

not even being sarcastic, i just really don't see why it's necessary to rehash criticisms against journal style that have already been voiced dozens of times over.

your argument is telling me to not voice my opinion because

a) it's different than yours and
b) a million other people have a different opinion than yours

ok then

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
my argument is asking what you think you're contributing to the discussion

1) anon expresses like for a format while saying nothing negative about any others in doing so
2) you show up to shit all over it

no one is saying you're not allowed to voice your opinion.

what baffles me is why you think voicing it here adds anything of value to this thread.

considering there's an anon up there who's saying people who don't like journal games are lazy, which also comes up pretty much every time this argument comes up, i'd say the shitting on goes both ways.

it has no effect on your ability to have fun

affect can be a noun but that is not how to use it

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
tittybaby players who throw hissyfits and delete their journals means all those threads get lost forever

which also happens in comm games if you get someone who deletes all of their posts and comments everywhere when they delete the journal. i had a castmate do that to me once and leave me with a ton of broken threads.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
yeah but that's on lj only tho

afaik you can delete your journal on dw but your comments and stuff will remain in the communities they were posted in

unless they go in and manually delete everything one by one in which case i don't know what to say other than that takes a lot of effort i think your average tittybaby will not go through. a really batshit one, yeah, maybe. but your average impulsive tittybaby is just going to delete their journal, making it all the easier for those broken threads to occur in journal games.

I agree there should be more of them for people that like that sort of style, but I personally would never play in one.

I like to keep my character journal as tidy and neat as possible and restrict posts to information relevant to that character and my playing, not a crap load of threads that probably never get finished and a friends page that could potentially get flooded. I prefer having one/two comms to go to to check to see who's posted and if anything has any relevance to my character. The potential to just scroll and scroll if I had pages of journal posts would just bee to great for me.

Re: GAME STYLE DISCUSSION

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
but checking pages of comm posts is exactly the same as checking pages of journal posts...?

Re: GAME STYLE DISCUSSION

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Only not really? If I check the comms of the games I'm in, I usually only have to go back a page depending on the level of activity in the game. With journal posts, if I check my friends page, not only do I have every player that happens to be on my friends list, but I have all the other journals I might have friended just so we can keep tabs on our character developments and whatever dr comms or meme comms I might be in.

That's a lot of scrolling and parsing to figure out who posted what where. But again, it's merely my preference to check comms for posts my character might want to tag, just as I'm sure there are people out there who'd prefer to play in a journal game. I don't think there's really anything wrong with either version, but I have a personal preference for one over the other.

you do realize that you can join things like drs and meme comms and not have all of the posts show up on your friends page, right?

if this thread tells me anything, it's that people who prefer journal-based games are pedantic, defensive fucks about it

no thx
