i really want to play snake/otacon with someone somewhere but i'm far too shy to ask about it because i cannot comprehend a lot of metal gear's plots so i might be seen as "only in it for the buttsex" when i enjoy much more to their dynamic than romance or sex.........

when i say i cannot comprehend metal gear's plots i actually mean that. i usually stick to "kiddie" canons or things marketed towards children because they have plots i can understand. most average films and drama TV shows have plotlines that i cannot grasp unless i dedicate myself to rewatching them 7 or 8 times or more. it took me over 15 replays of one of my favourite games to fully understand its plot.

i have a learning disability and i may have an autism-spectrum disorder as well. also, i deeply apologise for using the metal gear thread as a confession soapbox, i saw the opportunity and i took it.

in MGS at least you're in good company. I don't think anybody really gets 100% of what's going on.

I've been RPing from various MGS games since 2008 (but have been acquainted with the series for around fifteen years), and there's still some things I don't quite get.

Although it's pretty much an agreed rule that if you're confused by something, it's probably nanomachines.

and thats another thing that'd make me feel insecure.

Everyone's gotta start somewhere, right? I'm pretty sure no one's going to judge you for being new. And if they do? Well, they're the ones who are dicks.

echoing the other anon, none of us understand what's going on in these games. i've flat out given up on picking up certain characters because i just can't parse the canon anymore and, similarly to that anon, i've been playing these games for over 10 years. (at this point i've given up tbh since i don't really give much of a shit about big boss as a protag and they're making a million games about him that'll affect everything and make everything more confusing)

i find the database and the wiki are really helpful for trying to piece the plot together and if you have questions i'm sure there's a handful of us who wouldn't mind helping out where we can

also anyone who rags on you for getting into the games because of brawl is a massive asshole

echoing the above anon too. i'm excited for MGS5 as anyone else but i'm personally tired of the big boss over-saturation. i've purposefully only picked up MGS characters to RP that are minor or do not have such heavy canon involvement because the series is so ridiculously complicated. fun! but complicated and often just for the sake of being complicated.

i actually have an account for snake! but i've been too shy to give him a whirl in any public venue, and haven't canon reviewed with him in mind lately. he is a big ol' intimidating pair of shoes to fill, but man do i love him. snake and otacon have a fun dynamic worth exploring.

Speaking as someone who thinks I've got a decent (though not complete because this stuff is deeeeeeep) grasp of the series, I would absolutely love to talk the ear off of new fans about the details of the series. I won't judge or reject, I just want to talk to people about MGS and I love seeing people starting to get into it!
