Unsure why?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Villains haven't worked out in Luceti lately. Their plots are clumsy unless they end in a drop, or they can't be played smart of threatening. THe Obito reserve makes me expect cliqueish behavior on top of that.

I can see why you would side eye villains given that, but what do you mean by cliqueish? I missed hold comments, did something happen there or?

the naruto cast is already huge, and now there's six reserves for it. if the cast is current, there'll be drama with him showing up because he's fucked with everyone. it's a weird character to app if you care about getting cr with the rest of the game.

Isn't the Obito they're applying like twelve.

No, he's being apped from current canon.

You could say the same about villains for any popular series, really. If that's the only reason you have for thinking it's cliquish, I don't think there's any real reason to worry.

Let's be real, villains no longer work in Luceti. It's not always the villains or the heroes fault, but they just don't work with how the game is now.

I think a villain could still work, but it would need to be a particular kind of villain. The kind of villain who is a villain only because their ideals don't align with the heroes, rather than just being "evil". They could try and align people in the village with them in a more active front against the malnosso (such as through deliberately going against orders during drafts or applying for missions only to intentionally sabotage them or collect information), rather than simply being against the other villagers for no reason.

The problem is that it's the kind of thing that would take a lot of time and effort, since ICly people wouldn't likely follow someone who hasn't been in Luceti for a long time. Not to mention that most villains I've seen so far tend to do the go-out-with-a-bang sort of plot that makes it hard for characters to trust them, have goals that just don't make sense in the new setting (or that amount only to "cause havoc"), or just aren't personable enough otherwise to encourage CR in the first place.

In a way they wouldn't really be a "villain" in Luceti at all, but their method of doing things could bring trouble for anyone not on the villain's side (such as intentionally killing non-Luceti-civilians or allowing for high-up Malnosso to be captured by the third-party during drafts, forcing them to turn to the Lucetians for help and giving them an opportunity to bargain).

that doesn't even need a designated villain character to pull it off

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, but I'm just saying this is how a villain character could work in Luceti. Most of the big-shot kill everything-type villains don't last long.

Isn't Albert a villain in his canon? He's done well at Luceti for all the reasons you listed.

+1

Albert is the strategist for the antagonists in his canon, and double crosses them at the last second for personal reasons and to further his career by proving his capabilities. Not many characters in Luceti's history have known this ICly because he's a well respected individual and has been very low key, even when Yuber was around.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-20 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Like the other anon said, he's the antagonist's strategist. Suikoden is very much a canon that the bad guys aren't outright bad (with the exception of people like Yuber, Luca Blight, and a couple of others), they just have different viewpoints than the playable characters do. The Silverbergs who were on the side of the antagonists are more after personal power and standing in society. If it benefits them to work with the good guys, they'll do so. If it benefits them to work with the bad guys, then they'll do so. It would be more like a mercenary type character who will work for whoever pays the most, but in this case the pay they are after is increased standing. Albert is more morally grey like a couple of others who were antagonists in their canons and aren't in Luceti.

Don't we have a Mithos? I thought that guy was the big bad boss of that Tales game?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-20 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Mithos and Alexei are two Tales villains present in Luceti. I'm not familiar with the characters' full Luceti histories or with Alexei's game, but I know that Mithos is pretty much ostracized from others for the most part and the other Symphonia characters keep tabs on him.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-20 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
doesn't Mithos hate everyone anyway? or humans which represents the major part of luceti and many non-humans look like humans anyway so they probably end in the same group.
