rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:

Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: book recs?
(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 06:46 am (UTC)(link)Someone above recommended Eddings and I rather like some of the novels by him (and his wife), specifically The Belgariad. My favorite novel by Eddings is The Redemption of Athalus. However, all of the books I've found to be rather light in reading - so intrigue offered by say Martin or the sheer density of information offered by Tolkien really isn't there.
Along the same lines as Eddings, have you considered the Dragonlance or the Forgotten Realms novels? They can be pretty hit or miss, but for the most part the characters themselves (Raistlin, Drizzt, etc) are fairly enjoyable. My particular favorites are the War of the Spider Queen novels, but I've a fondness for the drow and don't mind the continuity errors that crop up from having multiple authors write that particular series.
In a similar vein to Martin with a gritty, realistic fantasy world and morally ambiguous characters, I really recommend Glen Cook's The Black Company and The Dread Empire (I favor the former). I also really enjoy his fantasy detective series Garrett P.I., but it's certainly more light-hearted in comparison to his other books.
Finally, if you aren't opposed to erotica, I love Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart series.
