Lovi-mun, who is already being side-eyed for playing out an abusive relationship poorly and without sensitivity is now trying to app an FtM trans character. By referring to them with the wrong pronouns, constantly, throughout the app.

I don't know The Leviathan Trilogy at all, but, from the info linked in the app, it looks like canon refers to Deryn using female pronouns and doesn't explicitly identify her as transgender. In that case, sticking with what canon goes with in your app doesn't seem wildly insensitive to me. If only for clarity's sake! The app also switches to using male pronouns when Deryn is presenting herself as "Dylan."

No idea how solid a take on canon interpreting Deryn as trans is or whether the mun is doing/will do it right. But those are some weak grounds to be further side-eying them on already.

I don't care what the book says. This is AU, and if they're going to be playing them as trans*, they need to actually research shit and stop using female pronouns in narrative. Especially considering there are trans* players in the game.

Going to point out that Lovi mun is trans* themselves, so I really don't think they mean anything by it, but they're probably mostly using the pronouns that the book uses. It might still be wrong, but being a bit uninformed on how to handle these matters at 16 is hardly ZOMG SO OFFENSIVE.

Deryn is not trans, she's a girl who loves flying and the only way to do that during the war and after her family already lost someone during a flight accident is to enlist. The only way to enlist is to be a boy, so she pretends to be one. It's the same argument for making Mulan a trans* character, but that doesn't make it canon.

Deryn has never thought of herself as male, and it's shown through the chapters from her POV always referring to her as a girl and with female pronouns. The only times she gets referred to in narration with male pronouns is when the POV character thinks she is a boy. Apping Deryn as trans is pretty much throwing her canon identity out the window, and even if it's AU, that's a pretty terrible misrepresentation of a character and an identity.
