Love thy anon

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

What the above anon said.

Don't try to maintain two identities at once, since you'll inevitably fuck up and use the wrong one. Make sure that any friends you want to keep are aware of what you're doing, but use something more private than Plurk to talk to them for a while. If you immediately show up as a "new" person in their social circle but continue acting like you're old friends, it will look obvious if there's anyone who actually cares.

Be very selective about the people you stay in contact with. If they're also friends with the people you want to avoid, or even if they play in the same games, then you're setting yourself up for a bad time. Wait a few months before apping anywhere new, and just say that you're "someone who is getting back into rp." Don't try making up a fake "backstory" for your new self - just be judicious about what information you share.

And most importantly, understand what happened that made you want to leave your old identity and social circle behind, and make sure it doesn't happen again.

What if it's nothing in particularly bad that happened, just ennui? I often feel the need to pack up and move but I've never been involved in any wank or pissed anyone off in a major way (at least not that I know of).
