Love thy anon

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Considering apping but with everything locked down, I'm having a hard time getting a feel for the game. I'm not looking for some vague statement of quality, just...how do things go in this game, in an average month? What sorts of plots go on? Weird events? How does it shake out?

Basically, what should I expect, if I app here?

There's generally one event a month that takes place in the middle of the month. It's open to player-run events/plots that could have an effect on the rest of the playerbase, but those need to be cleared with the mods first. There's also usually a poll about the possible events to come, so we get a good idea of what's coming up and we get a say in what we'd prefer.

It's a 3:1 game, so the time can go pretty slowly, but with how backtag friendly it is and how many cr routes you can go, I personally have found it to be pretty helpful to keep me from getting swamped with events and things rushing along.

Could you give me some examples of events and player plots that have been done in the past?

The anon below me posted the events, so I don't need to cover those, but for player plot there was a body found somewhere that was a plot between a few of the players earlier in the game. There's also the player plot being set up between the Inception cast that are expanding outwards for a job done in game. The mods are really welcoming and opening to suggestions and players wanting to do a small but noticeable plot between them.

As far as events go: this month we had two. One was a malfunction with the chip that would heighten/take away certain senses, so people could play with sensory deprivation. The second was a celebration of the city's centennial, which involves a central theme of drugs that enhance metabolism. So enhanced healing, speed, sensation.

Last month, we had an event with chemicals in the water that caused different effects, like sexswap, suggestibility to mind control, and extreme emotional states. Month before that, it was an entanglement in the chips that caused people to share sensations with others in proximity.

And there was just a poll which asked us to choose between some possible future events, including a potential mating cycles/fertility event, a snuff-centered one where companies figure out cheap cloning/reincarnation, a human cattle/kidnapping/rescue thing, and an animal transformation thing for bestiality play.

it is way too much effort to talk about the rest rn so that's all I'm writing

important to know:the game started off with one set of mods. they didn't really know how to handle it (let a lot of crappy players in the first round, started with an event that split the playerbase, did a lot of dumbing down the premise). The old mods flounced after, admittedly, they had to deal with a whole lot of dumbass wank on wankgate. new mods are more experienced, are responsible for all the events actually listed above, but they're still tweaking rules set down by the old mods.

plotwise: the game started out with the old mods pretty severely forcing it to slice of life, but the new mods seem to be willing to let people explore the dystopian idea. they've slowly opened up metaplot things to do. it's still mostly slice of life, though.

there are a handful of posts a day. 3:1 ratio means that things don't move too fast, even when posts are pretty rapid-fire there's time to get stuff you want to do done. there's a lot of smut. lot of kink. all the plotting posts explode pretty fast. Honestly i can't tell if there are any cliques, because I don't have CR with most of the game. there are enough people that you can find someone who will play with you.

seconding that i haven't really noticed any cliques. everyone i've reached out to for cr has been friendly and receptive. there are a few excellent writers and a few terrible writers but the writing quality on average seems pretty good.

there is definitely more smut being played out than in the other sex games i've been in before.

only real thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of slower players in the game, and some others that are fast when they're around but have sporadic availability. if you're a boomerang tagger expecting people to match your speed a good chunk of the game just won't be doing that. the game has incentives for thread completion so there is a good amount of backtagging though.

Seconding what everyone has said, with an extra note about pacing: if you were to look at the comm right at this moment you might be put off by the fact that there haven't been any network posts for about a week. But if you look at the logs comm, you'll see why: everybody is busy threading for the current event in whatever prose or action-based fashion suits them. I noticed this last event, too, and am pretty sure that's how it'll go for the foreseeable future.

So you essentially have a busy network the first part of the month, and then a busy logs comm the second half. And this suits me, to be honest, so I don't have to worry about keeping up with the network when I have four or five logs going.
