I'm surprised no one mentioned this in the last post given how stoked the fandom was for it! This episode was the first time I've been excited about the anime in years because this is one of my favorite strips. I daresay it even gave me the push I needed to start playing some of my Hetalia characters in games again after a year of only occasionally poking around memes and museboxes. It also sort of makes me want to try playing France again like I've been saying I would. But only sort of.

On one hand the strip is really cute and it brings up many interesting edges to the nation/human interaction, and holy shit are the French soldier and his girlfriend some of the most adorable charas in the whole canon.

On the other, fuck the rabid France stans who are all "PAUVRE FRAAAAANCE SO ANGSTY, PAAAAAUVRE FRANCE HE'S AN ANGEL SEE HE'D NEVER EVER BE AN ICKY PERV, FUCK YOU FANDOM". Sorry girls, this IS the same dude who strips people against their wills, tries to get guys and girls in his bed, flips the skirt of a woman despite knowing she'll beat him up for that, AND OPENLY ADMITS HE'S A PERVERT IN CANON.

The whitewashing of France's flaws and quirks makes me want to slap each of these rabid France fangirls in the mouth before they keep whining on behalf of some ~precious adonis of love~ that doesn't exactly exist. France has his depth and isn't "GROPEGROPEGROPERAEP" all the time, but he isn't oh so above it all and twisting him into a some suave and hawt Marty Stu is a freakign dis-service to one of the most fun charas in Hetalia.

Yeah, I mad. I adore France in his thoughtful but also pervy glory, and this has bothered me for a long time already. :(

Where have you been all my fandom life, nonnie? France has been one of my favorite characters since I first started reading Hetalia, and while I can understand wanting to give France more depth than the canon may sometimes show, fanon like this for him in all circles of the fandom (including RP) has been driving me up the wall for years.

Are there any Americas or Englands that aren't rabidly obsessed with rping out USUK? I'd kill for an American who actually threaded with minor character and and England who just doesn't stick to America, France, or the other half of the player's OTP. I'm not even asking for shippy things, but just platonic things.

All the Americas I've encountered only ever care about USUK or AmeCan, occasionally RusAme, but most tend to dislike it in favor of USUK. Englands were a bit more open to shipping options, but still tended to gravitate to America or France the most.

It makes sense, since USUK and FrUK are two of England's most popular pairs, but it'd be great to see an America or England player with more variety available when it comes to both CR options and shipping.

I'm a USUK devotée and it's my OTP, but damn I agree with you. Guys, I love seeing my OTP around, but interacting with other characters won't kill you!

I'm an America who can't stand USUK and doesn't tend to play out nationships at all, although I don't play a lot within the fandom community itself so idk if that's what you were talking about :<a
