Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Honestly looks like shit. They've removed all the stuff that makes Fate Fate, but kept almost all the technical magic jargon which makes the fandom impenetrable to people who haven't actually played the novels.

I was excited for a moment, but it's too much like a generic magical fighting rp as it is.

And I know the prana replenishment stuff is canon, but it just seems like an invitation to skeevy shit in an otherwise gen game. I might still app, but I'm going to give it at least a month or two.

Though Fate/Conflation is based mostly on Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, it takes inspiration from other elements of the series, such as Carnival Phantasm.

That alone sets off a shit ton of warning bells in my head.

I just don't think the Holy Grail War works as an RP premise. I give this game two months before it either folds or goes the way of TVK.

I think it can as a short-run private game.

I 100% don't think it can work as an open, public, never ending jamjar.

I think it's how you work with it? A PSL-like thing among friends? Fine. A small, cyclic game with character caps? Fine. A Fate/AU sort of thing? Fine.

This just looks like it'll crash and burn or just turn into something that's barely Fate by the end.

Imperial Saga (AU game, now defunct, mods were flakes) had a surprisingly decent Grail War subplot while it lasted. But I don't think it's something that can run as a traditional DW jamjar without completely neutering the basic premise. There seems to be a lot of interest, though.

It's being run by the crowd that hangs around Mini that alone should set of warning signs for anyone that thinks this game will last.

As someone who knows the mod and the people helping her, there is no part of that comment that is correct.

The head mod knew Mini several years ago and they're still on good terms and are still Plurk friends. The other people either don't even know Mini or don't hang around her. It's an entirely different social circle altogether.

You know, I think this game offending the die-hard Fate fans may be a plus. A lot of them are, how shall I put it, very invested into the canon and especially the power level nonsense. Them not applying would be a godsent.

I think the game has a better chance with this, because several of the major Fate wankers won't apply, making the game more fun for casual fate fans or people that mostly know the canon from RP.

That? Is the majority.

I'm not a Fate fan at all, but the one thing I did like was that there was all kinds of intrigue and internal politics between the mages. Making it into a standard panfandom jamjar removes most of that intensity. The obsessive fans are still going to join (I know some who are already working on their apps) and they're still going to whine about power levels and classes.

This would be a lot more awesome if it was a game about playable game world OCs summoning the characters to fight for them. Like soulbonding meets Pokemon.
