why does it seem like every molly i see is a flirts-with-anything-that-moves nympho? yeah, she's a sexual creature by nature of being an average young adult. yeah, she does flirt sometimes. but it's not nearly as rampant as mollys seem to play it. not to mention when they do it with HARRY? uh, no, molly is NOT constantly flirting with/hitting on Harry and/or trying desperately to get in his pants. Yes, she still has a crush on him, but jegus christ, she doesn't act on it after the ice water incident!

please, anons, are there any GOOD molly RPers out there?

De-anoning because lol zero point to it. I very recently picked up Molly so I can't say that I'm any good or bad, but I absolutely must agree with your points.

Molly has always struck me as the sort of person who is very comfortable with their beauty and sexuality, and doesn't pay much mind to it most of the time. No way is she a flirts-with-anything-that-moves nympho, but she also isn't a prude. She has 'explored most of the bases' but is a virgin, and wears tight t-shirts that say things like 'IF YOU CAN READ THIS, YOU'D BETTER HAVE BOUGHT ME DINNER.' She strips out of mangled jeans in front of Harry once, and really easily manipulated a young man for information by taking off her bra, pressing a cold beer against her nipples, and walking with swagger in the hip. But at the same time, Harry once says that, "When she paid any attention, men fell all over her." So, obviously, she doesn't exactly go around flirting with any man she sees but isn't shy about a good-looking guy.

No way would she ever, regardless of all that and how she might flirt with attractive young men offscreen, flirt with Harry. She might have a serious crush on him, but no. Never has she been seen flirting with him after the ice water. :/ Maybe it's because I just don't ship it at all, but it seems to me that she has a very solid line between those that are acceptable to flirt with and those that are not, and wouldn't cross it unless lives seriously depended on it somehow.

(Most of my threads have been meme posts, and have only been mostly tagged by one very handsome and extremely overtly flirty young man who she would naturally return to in kind [to a point], so I'm not a terrific example of this yet, but I'm very much so looking forward to demonstrating my view!)

I would actually have to disagree with this to a point. For two reasons:
1 - We read all of Molly's interactions with Harry through Harry's POV, and Harry is (as demonstrated multiple times) thick as a bunker wall when it comes to women. Especially to women being attracted to him.
2 - In Changes, it is obvious to everyone involved (except Harry) that Molly has very deep feelings for him.

And that obviousness has to come from somewhere. It's not that Murphy and Thomas have psychic knowledge about Molly's feelings. She clearly shows some signs of it, somehow, to people who read human interaction better than Harry (i.e. people who are not Ron Weasley). So I would suspect that Molly does, in a subtle, maybe completely unconscious way, flirt with Harry.

It's just that Harry is too thick to pick up on this flirting. And the players (being people with a modicrum of clue) aren't Harry and can see it.

Of course, I say this as someone who doesn't and won't ever pick up Molly for a multitude of reasons, so... grain of salt.

... Wow, true, good point. I do tend to forget about Harry's obliviousness. I assume that on 2, that there are many ways for someone to obviously show their affection and deep romantic feelings for someone rather than flirting. I meant that there wouldn't be overt flirting, the sort of thing that OP cited with 'flirts-with-anything-that-moves.'

True, I think there are plenty of signs that she probably shows. She very likely unconsciously demonstrates a lot of body language--sitting closer to Harry, or standing straighter when he is around, for examples--that people who aren't clueless to females can pick up on without verbal flirting being involved. She, consciously, would not mean to flirt with Harry.

Then again, that's all just my point of view too. It's all interpretation, here, which is half the fun!

That's why I added the caveat that she may very well be subconsciously flirting with Harry. And in RP (especially meme-based RP), how do you define what is unconscious "I'm just being friendly" flirting with "need to jump his bones now" flirting?

I'm also really curious where OP is seeing these " flirts-with-anything-that-moves nympho" Mollys. The phrasing of that description sets off quite a few flags in my mind, and most of the Mollys I've seen have been very clear that they are still virgins and aren't eager to jump into bed with anyone. But that they are comfortable enough in their bodies and their sexuality to indulge in some harmless flirting.

Yeah, I do agree. Though I presume by speech versus action and writing skill. In bracket action tags, it's not very hard to wrangle the character's feelings in. It's harder in first-person network posts. But you're right in that the reader is ultimately the final interpreter.

I'm curious too. I admit I somehow felt that I had to defend my Molly-playing honor, worried that my recent meme threads might have caused some of the worry. I don't like 'nympho' just by merit of the word itself, but I'd be very afraid if someone took her character that way.

I've never played from the series, but I've read it and I've been curious about the RP scene for it. It seems like in general RPers like to play more sexualized characters, and it's unfortunate that Molly gets picked up as one of those because of the ice-water incident. She's just not the kind of girl who'd toss herself at people like that.

on the note of good Mollies, though, we recently had a Molly app in at a_facility who I just love, and who isn't at all over-sexy. I'm not the biggest fan of her icon set, but she really does the character justice. Along with our fantastic Harry I hope this is a sign that a little cast might start popping up, because I sure am getting a little sick of superheroes and homestuck.

Once again, I'm very curious where people are seeing these 'more sexualized' Mollys. I've been looking for more TDF players in general to bounce my muses off of, and from what I've seen, there are far more Harrys and Murphys around than people who play White Court vamps (a fact that is infinitely sad to me since the family dynamic is so delightfully twisted). Hell I haven't even seen a Molly that throws herself at Harry and according to OP they're everywhere.
