Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. It doesn't look like DW can handle 5,000 comment entries at the moment so please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENA

BLACK ROSE ARC (here there be spoilers)

(Anonymous) 2012-02-13 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
This isn't for a specific character, but how well does the cast remember the events of the Black Rose Arc? Two things are clear: 1) Akio and Anthy seem to remember the events clearly, and 2) after Mikage's duel, he, and Nemuro Memorial Hall, disappear and are forgotten about by Miki and Utena.

But what about everything else? I believe the duels are forgotten, but what about the events in between?

Well... I can only speak for this girl really (clearly I need some canon review), but pretty sure that the events in her episodes are remembered. She acknowledges that she "even tried to throw [shiori] away once" and stuff like that. Same with Miki and his little milkshake fetish he's got going on? Since it's still sort of a theme at the end of the episode, I mean. And the student council remember getting those 'swords' ripped out of them, since Miki goes to the other members about it.

As for the black rose duelists, I dont think they remember the duels per se, and might not even remember going to the memorial hall at all...

But, like you say, this is during the arc itself. However, I'm pretty sure Shioro's knowledge of Juri's dirty little secret carries over?

I don't know, I might be talking out of my ass. It's been awhile, sorry I can't be more concrete, anon.

I think certain things are remembered. Obviously Utena remembers meeting Kanae and Akio for the first time, and the subsequent discussions with Akio.

I think what's forgotten is anything directly pertaining to Mikage or the Nemuro Memorial Hall. I don't think Utena remembers any of the duels she had, I don't think the Black Rose Duelists remember their duels/confessionals, and I don't believe the Student Council remembers their sword pulls (I might be wrong on this, it's been a while). The situations leading up to that they likely remember though. For example, I'll use Wakaba. She probably remembers keeping Saionji hidden, remembers he was admitted back into school and left, but the memories of the duel/confessional are probably either totally gone or have been altered into something else. They still have those feelings that lead to the duels as well - they just don't act on them.

Wondering if any anon has ideas as to how to provoke an otherwise fairly peaceable character to violence. How would you guys do it?

Re: CHARACTER ADVICE

that is the vaguest fucking thing i've ever heard.

what does the character value that they might flip out over? attacking their friends? insulting an ideal or their deceased loved ones? repeatedly singing awful songs at them?

secondly, what would the other character be willing to do? if they aren't prepared to brutally murder the target's family to get a reaction, maybe they can just make the target think it happened.

Been in the process of doing this to one of my characters. He's pretty stubborn with his morals and hasn't been up for much violence (outside some bare minimum for self defense). I've been making him go through a lot of crap in his game and had some pretty consistent negative CR with someone who likes pushing his buttons. He'll eventually snap at this rate and lash out.

Like the above anon said, it depends on who you're talking about and how stubborn they are/their reasons for not being violent. But usually, I'd say it's something that's built up, not something that just happens. ...Unless something really horrible is going on.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

(Anonymous) 2012-02-14 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty much dying to come up with one but I have no idea how to go about it. Those of you who play them - especially regularly/in games - how do you come up with your characters?

(Anonymous) 2012-02-14 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
See an actor/actress in a picture crazy situation, come up with a story of how they got there. Hear a song and focus on a lyric, develop a character around it. Have a dream, turn the people in it into characters. Look up tropes, try to make a character who defies it.

There are no good nor bad ways to make a character, and no guarantee any one way will work for you. Go forth and think about things you see, personality traits you find in others. Think about stuff you'd like to read and make a story for a character based on it. You just have to think about it.

Comes automatic to me. vOv I'm not entirely sure how one would "force" it, but usually I'm inspired by some character type and situation that I'd like to explore psychologically.

It's more complicated than canon characters because you're pretty much making the canon from whole cloth along with the character itself.

I don't know, really. I've had characters come to me through everything from passing a factory at night to watching a Nicki Minaj video. You could think of a story you want to tell - who do you need, what roles need to be made to progress the story? You could look around TV Tropes, bitch to friends about character concepts gone to shit - I'm sure I once considered making a character after bitching about Glee. Sometimes even just looking at PBs and trying to figure out what kind of person they'd portray can work.

Like the first anon said, there's no way that's better or worse than anything else, you just have to think and let the fire ignite, so to speak.
