Well -- because Anya's mun is new. And because she can get the panfandom experience in any game she chooses to try. Singularity isn't the only RP where there are a lot of people and a lot of casts.

Frankly, if I knew that I'd be navigating awkwardness with a very close canonmate, and I hadn't had time to put down real roots in the game, I'd cut my losses too. She didn't do it dramatically, she didn't make a big deal out of it, she just took a look at what she would gain in this game and decided that it wasn't worth the potential for unhappiness.

I agree! I just don't see it as any different than a mun cutting their losses rather than navigating awkwardness trying to force out CR with a character they strongly dislike for the sake of politeness or whatever. Erik-mun was very straight-forward, didn't string anyone along, didn't make a big speech or attack the mun personally, and apologized multiple times for being uninterested.

On the other hand, I've had it happen where I eventually find out after several failed attempts at CR that a particular canonmate probably doesn't actually want to interact with mine, but is afraid to come out and say so. Frankly, I'd prefer it if more players did what Erik-mun did with me and just said "Sorry, don't waste your time trying to develop CR and plots with me because my heart won't be in it. Nothing personal." To me, that's how you SHOULD handle that particular situation.

So to sum up, Anya-mun dropping instead of dragging it out because she didn't get the CR she wanted and she didn't want to have to tiptoe around a canonmate? Totally fine. Erik-mun being honest with Anya-mun that she didn't want to RP with Anya? Also totally fine.

If Erik-mun was unapologetic, lied about her reasons, or just gave Anya-mun the silent treatment, then I could understand people being upset about this. But that's not what happened.

Thing is, I do think Erik-mun lied. She said she didn't want to deal with the AU IC - to have Erik run across another person with a grudge. And when Anya-mun offered other ways of dealing, she turned them down. It read like "I will play angst, torture, and drama, but not with you", to a player who was new and hadn't even had a chance to be established.

And that does not sit well with me, period. I'm not an anon up in arms and frothing at the mouth over this, but I do not like that kind of response to a new player.

Erik-mun made it pretty clear that she didn't want to deal with the daddy drama AND that she wasn't comfortable with the AU.

A few people have cited the whole bb!Charles thing as hypocrisy, but I don't see it. bb!Charles isn't his child, for one thing, so the character dynamic is drastically different. For another, I'm guessing Erik-mun finds that particular AU interesting.

Whereas with Anya, Erik had just barely made some headway with his daddy drama regarding the Ultimates AU and it seemed like Anya would probably play out in a very similar fashion and it would feel like a retread and her heart probably wouldn't be into playing it. On top of that, I'm guessing Erik-mun simply wasn't fond of the AU Anya comes from.

I don't think it was about Erik-mun not wanting to play angst, etc. Nor do I think it was about Erik-mun not wanting to play with Anya-mun. I think it was specifically Erik-mun not liking Anya's AU and not wanting to do the whole "child reconciliation" thing again, even if it did play out slightly differently, as Anya-mun tried to reassure Erik-mun of.

Then again, I can't really speak for Erik-mun and I don't know what she was thinking. Perhaps she did bend the truth and should have been more direct about her feelings from the get-go. But ultimately, I thought her feelings were pretty clear on the matter when all was said and done. Yeah, could have been handled better, but it didn't come off as particularly dishonest, at least not in the sort of way that gets me pissed off.
